Miliband warns Iran
Britain’s Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband met Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York and told him the UK would "not tolerate intimidation, threats or hostile activity on UK soil" from groups linked to Iran. The Foreign Office said Miliband and Araghchi also discussed the war in the Middle East and the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while the statement emphasized Britain’s "unwavering resolve to combat threats from Iranian-linked groups on UK soil".
Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre said last week Iranian state-linked cyber actors had used a spyware family known as "CHOSEN BRICK" to steal emails, messages and other sensitive information through "spear-phishing" campaigns on messaging platforms including WhatsApp and Telegram. Araghchi’s statement on Telegram said he used the meeting to call for a correction to "the destructive and irresponsible approaches of some European governments towards Iran and regional developments."
No comment, Iran pushes back
The BBC said there was no immediate comment from Araghchi after Miliband told him the UK would "not tolerate intimidation, threats or hostile activity on UK soil". BAraghchi’s Telegram statement said he urged a correction to "the destructive and irresponsible approach of some European governments toward Iran and developments in the region," and he added that an "insistence on meddling in other countries’ internal affairs" was not acceptable.
The Foreign Office said Miliband also told Araghchi that Iran should choose "de-escalation and diplomacy instead of prolonging the war" while stressing the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The BBC reported that the Foreign Office said Miliband raised the detention of British couple Lindsay and Craig Foreman, who have been detained in Iran for more than 20 months after being arrested while passing through the country on a motorcycle journey.B

The Foreign Office said Miliband told Araghchi that the UK would not tolerate intimidation, threats or hostile activity on UK soil and set out the measures the Government has taken in response. The Foreign Office statement also said Miliband reiterated the UK’s "unwavering resolve to combat threats from Iranian-linked groups on UK soil, including attacks on the British Jewish community".
The BBC said Miliband’s comments followed an arson attack on four Jewish community ambulances in Golders Green in March, and it said UK intelligence chiefs later concluded intelligence pointed to Iran or its proxies being involved in the attack. BThe BBC reported that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the UN General Assembly that any peace deal would have to include an end to the US blockade preventing Iranian ships from using the waterway, and it said the US delegation walked out of the chamber at the start of Pezeshkian’s address.B
