Al-Manar TV Lebanon also described parallel phone diplomacy, saying Iran’s FM Abbas Araghchi discussed with Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir the ongoing efforts to advance political and diplomatic solutions.

An Anadolu Ajansı report added that Munir and Abbas Araghchi discussed “ways to revive long-stalled direct talks with the US,” with the Iranian government saying the call covered “regional developments and effective ways to strengthen peace, stability and security in West Asia.”

Calls, sanctions, and channels

In a separate report, Arab News said Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei told reporters that Munir’s visit is taking place in line with Pakistan’s ongoing good offices to contribute to the reinforcement of peace and stability in the region.

Arab News also tied the diplomacy to US pressure, citing that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent threatened “the toughest sanctions in history” on Iran and urged cooperation with Washington by China, which buys more than 80 percent of Iran’s shipped oil, according to 2025 data from analytics firm Kpler.

Al-Manar TV Lebanon framed the same Iran-Pakistan contact as part of efforts to reduce tensions in West Asia, saying Araghchi and Munir discussed ways to strengthen peace, stability and security in West Asia.

An Anadolu Ajansı account said the latest contact came amid a renewed push by mediators — Pakistan and Qatar — to bring the two warring sides to the table following the expiration of a 60-day deadline to reach a final agreement to end their war.

What’s at stake

Mehr News Agency said Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi and Pakistan’s military chief Field Marshal Asim Munir held phone talks on regional security and ways to reinforce peace and stability in the region, with an Iranian foreign ministry readout giving no further details.

The same Mehr News Agency reporting said Munir’s Tehran trip is intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation and continue Pakistan’s “good offices” in helping to strengthen peace and security in the region, with Munir meeting senior Iranian officials during the visit.

An Anadolu Ajansı report described the stalled US-Iran track as hinging on disagreements over security guarantees and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and it said the US and Iran exchanged military strikes between July 8 and July 24.

Arab News added that oil shipments are at a virtual standstill in the Strait of Hormuz, with Tehran threatening to strike any unauthorized oil tankers that try to transit the vital waterway, while Iran’s economy is under immense pressure from sanctions.
