Stokes sinks Derbyshire
Ben Stokes powered Durham to a 338-run victory over Derbyshire in the County Championship at Derby, with Stokes making an unbeaten 66 and taking 5-17 as Derbyshire were skittled out for 84 while chasing an unlikely 423 for victory.

Durham’s innings featured 21-year-old opener Ben McKinney’s 140 off 162 balls, including 15 fours and six sixes, and a 157-run partnership with Will Rhodes (52) before Durham declared on 295-6.

Matthew Potts finished with 5-46 and 3-22, and the BBC said Potts claimed 3-22 to become the leading wicket taker in the Championship as Stokes took three wickets in four balls.
Promotion race and other results
The win boosted Durham’s Rothesay County Championship promotion hopes, with Sky Sports saying it lifted “Championship promotion hopes” while also noting Division One leaders Nottinghamshire wrapped up a 145-run win against Surrey at The Oval.
Sky Sports’ roundup placed Warwickshire’s one-wicket win against Sussex at Edgbaston as they climbed up to second in Division One, after Chris Woakes edged the winning boundary as Warwickshire chased 203 for victory.
In the same slate of matches, The Independent reported Essex batter Charlie Allison made 105 not out at Taunton to lift his side to 314 for three after they had followed on against third-placed Somerset.
The Independent also highlighted Northamptonshire opener Ricardo Vasconcelos making 100 at Old Trafford against Lancashire, with the visitors declaring on 298 for four before leaving Lancashire needing 422 for victory.
How the collapse unfolded
The BBC described the key wicket sequence as Ben Aitchison was lbw playing across the line and Anuj Dal was bowled by a beauty that dipped in late to beat his defensive push, with Brydon Carse cleaning up Nick Potts and Shoaib Bashir losing his middle stump.
