Torcal Goes Fully Electric

Bentley unveiled its first fully electric vehicle, the Torcal, as a production car named after a Spanish rock formation. The Torcal is the brand’s first battery EV, and it brings “some of the ideas of the EXP 15 concept to the road.” The standard Torcal will offer peak outputs of 810 hp (604 kW) and 880 lb-ft (1,194 Nm), with a 3.3-second 0–60 mph time.

The more powerful Torcal S will deliver 875 hp (653 kW) and 995 lb-ft (1,350 Nm), with 60 mph from a standing start in 2.8 seconds. Martin Page, product line director for the Torcal, said, “[In] a steady state environment… you’ve got the ride comfort and compliance from a Flying Spur, but in a dynamic environment, we’ve got a vehicle that’s as dynamic and capable as a GT,”.

Charging, Battery, and Power

InsideEVs said the Torcal uses a 113 kilowatt-hour (gross) battery to deliver 375 miles of range on the WLTP cycle. The Torcal’s 800-volt battery architecture is capable of 400 kilowatts of peak charging rate, and a 10-80% charge happens in less than 20 minutes. The Torcal will accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds with 876 horsepower and 995 pound-feet of torque.

Bentley claims a 10-80% charge can be dispatched in just 16 minutes, and the Torcal gets the same 108kWh battery that appears in the Porsche Cayenne electric. Bentley expects first deliveries in Spring 2027, and the entry-level car is described as “around £160,000 without options.”

Tech-Forward Cabin and Suspension

CarBuzz said Bentley’s Torcal is the company’s most tech-forward vehicle ever, and it described the model as having two electric motors with a combined 876 horsepower in S form. Bentley’s sound design uses the rhythm of its gas-fired engines and the Bentley Dynamic Symphony, and it described the system as using “real instruments in the Bentley Dynamic Symphony.” The Torcal has a fully active suspension and two-valve adaptive dampers that can each be raised or lowered instantly and independently.

The Torcal is “the first Bentley with fully active suspension,” and it described the dampers as replacing anti-roll bars by providing adjustable anti-roll torque instead. Bentley developed what it says is the world’s first 100-percent Merino wool automotive fabric, and it added that the fabric is “certified to the Responsible Wool Standard.”
