Brazil's Laura Cardoso became the first player in men's or women's T20 international cricket to take nine wickets in a single innings. She achieved the feat in just three overs as Lesotho were bowled out for 13 in 6.2 overs, chasing 203. Cardoso started her remarkable run by taking wickets with five consecutive deliveries.
She was denied a 10-wicket haul when a teammate had Lindiwe Polaki stumped to conclude the match. Cardoso's nine wickets are the best figures in the format, besting the previous record held by Bhutan's Sonam Yeshey.
Record-Breaking Performance
Cardoso's extraordinary spell began in the second over with a hat-trick. She continued with four more wickets in the fourth over, bringing her tally to seven. Two additional wickets in the sixth over took her haul to nine.
Lesotho were bowled out for just 13 runs in 6.2 overs. Cardoso's figures are now the best in professional limited-overs cricket.
Brazil's Rising Cricket Force
Brazil posted a formidable total of 202 runs. Roberta Avery contributed 48 and Monnike Machado remained unbeaten on 69. Brazil are unbeaten in five matches at the six-team Kalahari Women's T20 tournament.
