USDC on Chelsea shirts
Chelsea Football Club announced that Circle’s USDC stablecoin branding will appear on the front of its jerseys for the 2026/2027 season, with the deal framed as a sponsorship reached just months after UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) concerns about club partnerships with unauthorized financial firms.

Circle said its name and USDC will appear on Chelsea FC players’ shirts for the 2026/2027 season, and the kit’s official debut is scheduled for this Sunday when Chelsea’s men’s team hosts Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.
SportsPro reported the logo will appear on Chelsea’s men’s, women’s and academy shirts across all competitions starting with this week’s Premier League home game against Brighton & Hove Albion, while also noting that the terms were not disclosed.
Finance Magnates said the USDC issuer becomes Chelsea’s official front-of-shirt sponsor from the 2026/27 season, with Circle and USDC branding appearing on Chelsea’s Men’s, Women’s and Academy shirts and debuting at Stamford Bridge this Sunday against Brighton.
CriptoNoticias added that the brand will be located on the chest of the shirt, “surpassing the usual secondary spaces such as the sleeves or training wear,” and said the principal partner role begins with the 2026/27 season.
FCA warning and FCA voice
The sponsorship lands after the FCA warned football clubs about sponsorship contracts with unregulated companies, with TradingView describing the FCA’s warning as “questionable sponsorship deals with unauthorised financial firms,” including cryptocurrency companies.
Bitget reported that the FCA raised concerns regarding sponsorship deals between football clubs and unauthorized financial companies, and quoted Lucy Castledine, director of consumer investments at the FCA, saying, “Millions of football fans trust their club’s badge.”B
Bitget further said the FCA urged clubs to ensure collaborations do not allow “dubious or unauthorized firms” to leverage club loyalty for promoting speculative or unregulated financial offerings to a massive audience.B
LCX Exchange said Circle’s partnership came about three months after the FCA said it had sent warning letters to clubs in the Premier League, potentially including Chelsea, and described the letters as concerning “unauthorized” companies using sponsorship deals to target football fans.

What’s at stake next
Several outlets tied the Chelsea deal to the timing of UK stablecoin oversight, with TradingView saying the watchdog is expected to begin enforcing new rules for digital asset firms, including stablecoin issuers, starting in October 2027.

LCX Exchange added that Circle UK Trading Limited has been listed as authorized by the FCA since 2018 to provide certain financial services to residents, while also noting that USDC was “not issued or regulated under the laws of the United Kingdom.”
SportsPro said the club ended its search for a new front-of-shirt sponsor by securing the partnership, and quoted Chelsea president Jason Gannon saying, “We are two organisations fixated by the future and are relentlessly innovating to be in the best position possible for the long-term.”
Finance Magnates described the sponsorship as filling a gap Chelsea has followed since 2023, when its roughly £40 million-a-year deal with telecoms group Three ended following the sale of the club by Roman Abramovich, and said both the men’s and women’s teams will carry Circle’s branding through the 2026/27 campaign.
