Colorado QB Dominiq Ponder Had Double-Limit BAC in Fatal Tesla Crash
Autopsy shows BAC 0.167, more than twice the legal limit, at time of crash. March 1 crash near Boulder in a 2023 Tesla; Ponder died after losing control.

Dominiq Ponder had a blood alcohol level of .167, more than twice Colorado's legal limit of .08. He was driving a 2023 Tesla when he lost control, went through a guardrail, hit a pole, and rolled down an embankment. The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries and it was categorized as an accident.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating factors including speed, impairment, and distracted driving. Ponder was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family Response and Legacy
Ponder's mother emphasized who he was and expressed hope for conversations about responsible decision-making. The family started the Dominiq Ponder 7/22 Foundation. The foundation will support student-athletes, children's hospitals, and families dealing with medical challenges.
Catrina urged young people to step in for friends who aren't thinking clearly. Funds will go toward scholarships for student-athletes who demonstrate resilience and character.
Football Career and Community
Ponder was a three-star prospect who spent a year at Bethune-Cookman before transferring to Colorado. He saw minimal action during his two years with the Buffaloes.
