Connor Michael Murphy Drowns After Jumping Into Lake In Samut Prakan

A 32-year-old American fitness influencer, Connor Michael Murphy, drowned on Tuesday evening after he jumped into a lake at a housing estate in Samut Prakan province, according to Bangkok Post and police statements attributed to Pol Col Veeraphong Roobsuay of the Bang Phli police station.

The incident unfolded in the Bang Phli district, where police said Murphy became frenzied after arriving in a vehicle in front of the estate, and witnesses described him as acting erratically before he ran and jumped into the water.

Bangkok Post reported that rescue divers searched for about 30 minutes and recovered his body about 20 metres from the shore, with police saying his body showed no signs of assault and that it was sent to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for an autopsy.

The Express Tribune added that authorities were still investigating after Murphy’s reported drowning in Thailand on July 7, with an autopsy and further examinations pending and no official cause of death announced.

Both outlets tied the drowning to the same sequence of events at the housing estate and nearby lake, with divers responding after reports of an American man behaving erratically.

Bangkok Post said a security guard told police that Murphy returned to the neighbourhood in a hired vehicle, tried to give the driver 1,000 baht, and then approached a resident’s passing car and knocked on the window asking for a ride into the estate.

The same account described the guard saying Murphy shouted to the driver not to pick him up, then became agitated by rolling around on the pavement and raising his hands as if praying before police arrived and Murphy ran and jumped into the lake.

NDTV Profit, citing ThaiRath, similarly described witnesses saying Murphy was shouting, making prayer-like gestures, and behaving unusually before entering a nearby lake where he kept swimming until he disappeared beneath the water.

NDTV Profit also reported that police found no visible signs of injury or assault and that the body had been sent for an autopsy while officials awaited results to determine the exact cause of death.

In parallel, The Economic Times said Thai authorities confirmed recovering a 32-year-old American named Connor Michael Murphy from a lake and that witnesses told ThaiRath he continued swimming until he appeared exhausted before disappearing beneath the surface in water estimated to be more than 10 metres deep.

Bangkok Post reported that investigators searched Murphy’s rented house backing onto the lake and found black and yellowish paint splashed throughout the property, including onto electrical appliances, while also finding two unused syringes and several unidentified white pills inside his waist bag.

The report said Murphy’s girlfriend, identified only as Bee, told police she had never seen him use drugs while they were living together and that the deceased had appeared completely normal before the incident.

The Economic Times added that Murphy’s girlfriend told ThaiRath she had never seen him use drugs during their relationship and did not know what prompted his sudden behavior that day, while also noting that no evidence released by investigators suggests foul play and that the investigation remains subject to official medical findings.

NDTV Profit said the investigation remains ongoing and that authorities were expected to provide more details after the autopsy is completed, while also quoting an anonymous X account, BowTied Biohacker, that posted: "RIP Connor Murphy. Thank you for all the laughs and top tier schizo posts."

Bangkok Post further said investigators would notify the US Embassy in Thailand, Bang Phli police said, as the case moved forward with toxicology tests for drugs and evidence gathering.
