The Pitt and Hacks lead
HBO Max’s “The Pitt” led all nominees with 25 Emmy nominations, while “Hacks” topped the comedy field with 24 nominations as the 2026 Primetime Emmy nominations were announced Wednesday.

The Guardian said “The Pitt leads with 25 nominations while Hacks has 24,” and it described the show’s second season as dominating this year’s Emmy nominations.
The Guardian also reported that Apple’s “Widow’s Bay” followed with 19 nods and “Pluribus” scored 18, marking Apple’s most successful year yet with its most ever Emmy nominations.
AP said “The Pitt” led all nominees with 25 in a dominant sophomore season, while “Hacks” got a graduation party with a record-setting 24 to lead all comedies in its final season.
The 78th annual Emmy Awards are set to air live on Sept. 14 on NBC and the streaming service Peacock, according to Kalshi News and The Guardian.
Odds and hosting
Kalshi News said traders were forecasting the Emmy ceremony on Sept. 14, with “Hacks” given a 53% chance of winning Outstanding Comedy Series.
In the same Kalshi News market preview, Kalshi News reported that Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” was “isn’t far behind at 7% followed by Margo’s Got Money Troubles at 10%.”
The Guardian reported that this year’s ceremony will take place on 14 September with the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay hosting.
AP said the nominees announced for 118 Primetime Emmy categories included newlywed Taylor Swift for “The Eras Tour - The Final Show” concert special and Bad Bunny for his Super Bowl halftime show.
The Guardian also noted that David Attenborough became the oldest ever Emmy nominee at the age of 100, receiving two nominations for outstanding narrator for “A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough” and “Ocean with David Attenborough.”

Variety added that “Hacks” earned 24 nominations for its fifth season, the most ever for a comedy, and it said star Jean Smart is now in line to win her fifth Emmy for the show and her eighth overall.
The Guardian said Jean Smart will go up against Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Ayo Edebiri, Elle Fanning, and Lisa Kudrow in the lead actress in a comedy series category, and it also said Matthew Rhys heads up the lead actor in a comedy series category.
AP said HBO Max led all outlets with 122 overall nominations and has three shows up for both best drama and best comedy series, underscoring how the nominations set up the next stage of the Emmy race on Sept. 14.
