Cypherpunk buys Zcash fleet
Cypherpunk Technologies launched Cypherpunk Mining after acquiring a 4.2 GSol/s Zcash mining fleet for $33.33 million through an equity transaction with Winklevoss Capital, with the fleet already operating at hosting facilities across the United States.
“has acquired a 4.2 GSol/s Zcash mining fleet for $33.33 million”
The company said the Bitmain Z15 Pro machines produce roughly 7,800 ZEC per month and that its fleet represents about 18% of the Zcash network’s total computing power.

Cypherpunk said it paid through a pre-funded warrant covering 43.29 million common shares, with an exercise price of $0.001 per share and a stated share price of $0.77 per share.
In its August 18 disclosure, Cypherpunk said it holds 323,394 ZEC, equal to about 1.92% of the cryptocurrency’s circulating supply, and set a target of reaching 5%.
Will McEvoy, chief investment officer at Cypherpunk, said in an Aug. 18 X post that the business was already generating positive cash flow.
Winklevoss warrant and output
Cypherpunk’s deal structure centered on a pre-funded warrant to Winklevoss Treasury Investments, which the company said allows the buyer to purchase 43.29 million Cypherpunk shares for $0.001 each.
The warrant is tied to a 19.99% beneficial ownership ceiling, and Cypherpunk must seek shareholder approval at its next annual meeting before issuing more than 5,377,442 shares through the warrant.

Cypherpunk said about 43,800 ZEC are distributed to miners across the network each month, and it estimated its 18% hashrate share would translate to roughly 7,800 ZEC per month.
Kevin Zhang, appointed head of mining, said, "Approximately 1,440 ZEC is awarded to miners each day," and argued that Zcash mining out-earns AI colocation and Bitcoin mining at today’s ZEC prices.
The company also framed the mining launch as adding a second route to increase its ZEC holdings beyond open-market purchases, while keeping its existing treasury of 323,394.38 ZEC.
What comes next for ZEC
Cypherpunk said the mining operation is deployed across U.S.-based facilities and that it is now the world’s largest active Zcash mining fleet, with approximately 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate representing about 18% of the Zcash network’s current hashrate.
“"the acquisition of additional ZEC, and new privacy-preserving technology investments"”
The company said mining meaningfully accelerates its path to a target of holding 5% of ZEC supply, and it linked that goal to mining rewards of about 43,800 ZEC each month.
Cypherpunk also positioned the mining cash flow as financial and operational flexibility to fund future growth, including "the acquisition of additional ZEC" and new privacy-preserving technology investments.
At the network level, the Zcash network underwent its Ironwood upgrade on July 28, introducing a new shielded transaction protocol to replace the Orchard pool and improve the network’s security architecture.
Cypherpunk’s expansion therefore ties its treasury and strategy to both ZEC’s market price and the network’s security posture after Ironwood, while the company’s disclosures also note that mining economics remain sensitive to factors including ZEC’s price, network hashrate, mining difficulty, and operating costs.
