Crowley defeats Hong
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley defeated Democratic socialist Francesca Hong in Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial primary on Tuesday, setting up a November general election against Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany.
“Crowley had 39.8% of the vote, ahead of Hong’s 39.4%”
The Associated Press results cited by The Guardian showed Crowley at 39.8% and Hong at 39.4%, a lead of just more than 3,000 votes with most votes counted.

Al Jazeera framed the contest as a tight ideological battle inside Democratic primaries, saying Hong led in the polls ahead of election day but lost by just 0.4 percent to Crowley.
CNN en Español described the race as a test of whether the progressive insurgency would extend to another presidential battleground state, noting that Crowley would face Tiffany in November and that Tony Evers campaigned in the final days to mobilize Democrats for Crowley.
Quotes and competing frames
After the result, Crowley’s campaign manager Garren Randolph said, "From day one, this campaign has been about what comes next for Wisconsin," and he added that Crowley was focused on bringing people together to win in November.
Hong told supporters in Madison, "We have built something that will change politics forever," while WKOW reported she emphasized the fight was not over yet to reach the Governor’s Office.

The New York Times described Democrats trying to make sense of the upset as a race that shifted dramatically in the last week, pointing to concerns that Hong could be a weaker general-election candidate against Tiffany.
Fox News portrayed the outcome as an establishment strike back against the left, quoting Tony Evers saying, "I am so proud of David—he's the future of our Party, and I can't wait for him to be our next governor," as it tied the primary to warnings about Democratic control of the governor’s office.
What’s at stake next
The New York Times said Crowley will face Representative Tom Tiffany, a Trump-endorsed Republican, in November, while also noting that the night included other primaries such as Peggy Flanagan’s win in Minnesota.
“flip both chambers of the Legislature to earn full control of Wisconsin state government for the first time since 2010”
In Wisconsin, The Guardian reported that Democrats were angling for a governing trifecta by trying to win back control of both chambers of the state assembly and keep the governor’s office, aiming for full control of Wisconsin state government.
WBAY said Democrats hoped to retain control of the governor’s office and flip both chambers of the Legislature to earn full control of Wisconsin state government for the first time since 2010, while also noting the race could test the limits of progressives’ appeal in a critical battleground state.
Al Jazeera added that the Wisconsin primary reflected a wider battle inside Democratic primaries between mainstream “establishment” candidates and left-wing “progressive” democratic socialists like Hong, with the outcome underscoring how divided the party’s future vision remains.
