Parton Dies at 80
Dolly Parton, the country music superstar, died at 80 in Nashville on Tuesday, her publicist said, after she “bravely facing a brief battle with cancer.”

ABC News reported that Parton died at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones after “bravely facing a brief battle with cancer,” and said no cause of death was initially provided before a later statement from her publicist.
The BBC described Parton’s death as following a “brief battle with cancer,” and noted that tributes poured in across genres after her legacy reached beyond country music.
CBS News said her team’s statement described her “unmatched generosity” and said the statement was released after her death at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
In a video announcement, her nephew Bryan Seaver said it was “an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness,” as he announced her death in a prerecorded video posted to social media.
Tributes Across Music
The BBC said American heavy and glam metal band Mötley Crüe called Parton “was not only one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but a bright, shining star who helped change the world for the better.”
The BBC also quoted rapper Eminem saying, “Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon,” after he posted about a note from Parton.
CNN reported that President Donald Trump ordered the American flag lowered to half-staff in her honor on his order, and said tributes were pouring in from musicians and politicians.
In a statement to CBS News, Parton’s team said her “unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet,” and described her as always there to offer a helping hand.
The BBC also included a tribute from Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney calling Parton a “magnificent star,” and said Elton John dubbed her a “giant of an artist” who was “irreplaceable.”

ABC News said a small private service will be held for immediate family, and it reported that Parton’s publicist said the service would be held after her death.

Anglican Ink published a statement from the Rt. Rev. Brian Cole that began, “It is with great sadness that we enter a time of mourning for the death of Dolly Parton,” and said he would continue to hold the Parton and Dean family in his prayers.
CBC reported that Parton’s death was confirmed by her family in a statement, and quoted Bryan Seaver saying, “By her example, we believed anything was possible,” as tributes continued to pour in.
