Sisi rejects displacement
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rejected any plans for Palestinian displacement during a Wednesday meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo, reiterating “Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of the Palestinian people or any attempt to annihilate the Palestinian cause.” The rejection came hours after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the army would “finish the job” in Gaza and remove Palestinians, while Katz also said Israel was ready to remove Palestinians from Gaza by sea and land but was waiting for the United States.
Al Arabiya English reported that Egypt shares the only land border with the Gaza Strip that is not controlled by Israel, and that since 2023 Cairo has rejected plans to displace the territory’s more than two million people into the Sinai Peninsula. The meeting also included Abbas briefing Sisi on Israeli moves in the occupied West Bank, including “the implementation of the E1 settlement plan, which seeks to separate the northern and southern parts” of the Palestinian territory.

Katz, Huckabee, and Abbas
Israel Katz’s statements about a “migration plan” for Gaza were met with a denial from US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, who said he had denied any plan to “displace people out of Gaza against their will.” In the same chain of comments, Al Jazeera reported that el-Sisi stressed “Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of the Palestinian people or any attempt to annihilate the Palestinian cause,” during Abbas’s visit.
Al Jazeera also said Abbas praised Egypt’s steadfastness in defending Palestinian rights and reiterated that “Gaza is an integral part of our state.” The war’s scale in the sources was tied to the displacement debate, with Al Jazeera stating that nearly all of Gaza’s population has been internally displaced and that most of the territory lies in rubble after three years of a war that has killed more than 73,700 Palestinians.

Ceasefire, aid, and stakes
Arab News said el-Sisi pledged to continue working with mediators to implement the agreement to end the war in Gaza, and stressed that all parties must abide by the Oct. 10 ceasefire agreement, including by halting escalation and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid.
The same report said Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz told ministers it was “only a matter of time” before Israel resumed full-scale war in the enclave to “finish the job” and moved ahead with plans to push for the emigration of its two million Palestinians.
Egyptian Gazette framed the stakes as a long-running policy line, saying Cairo’s message under Sisi has remained “clear” since October 7, 2023: no displacement of Palestinians, no liquidation of their cause and no imposition of a new reality by force.
It also cited Egypt’s stated approach to preventing escalation and protecting civilians, noting that Sisi described displacement as a “red line” and warned on October 17, 2023 that continued military operations in Gaza could lead to a mass displacement of Palestinians.
