Empery Digital sold 1,400 BTC, about half its holdings. Proceeds total around $87.1 million at roughly $62,200 per BTC.

Empery sells BTC
Bitcoin treasury company Empery Digital sold 1,400 Bitcoin at an average price of $62,200 per coin, generating about $87.1 million in proceeds over roughly the past two months.
The company said the proceeds would fund a 25% stake in a Hunt Properties-affiliated venture tied to an AI data center project and also support debt reduction.

Empery’s Bitcoin holdings were reduced by 48% to 1,514 BTC, which the company described as currently valued around $97 million based on prevailing market prices.
Shares in Empery Digital moved higher on Friday, rising about 4.2% to $3.95 within the first 35 minutes of trading before later trimming gains, according to an 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The shift comes as Empery had previously leaned heavily on a Bitcoin treasury strategy and had held a company-high 4,081 BTC before selling some holdings earlier in March and April.
Pressure from a shareholder
The Bitcoin sale followed months of pressure from Tice P. Brown, a near-10% shareholder in Empery Digital, who called on the firm to abandon its BTC-buying strategy and demanded that the CEO and entire board resign.
Cointelegraph described Empery’s pivot to a Bitcoin-centric treasury strategy in mid-2025 when the biggest crypto by market cap was pushing toward its October all-time high of $126,080.

After the disclosure, Empery’s stock initially rose, but it later retraced to $3.86 and closed up 1.58% on the day, as the market weighed the change in treasury approach.
Bloomingbit reported that Empery still holds 1,514 Bitcoin and said it no longer plans to buy more, while considering additional sales to free up capital for other investments.
In the same period, CoinDesk framed the move as a swap of “bitcoin treasury ambitions for AI data centers,” while noting Empery “does not intend to purchase more and may sell additional BTC” to fund other opportunities.
AI bet and what’s next
Empery said it would use $10 million of the proceeds to repay outstanding debt, while the remainder would be allocated to real estate acquisitions, legal expenses related to shareholder litigation, and general working capital.
BigGo Finance reported that Empery acquired a 150-megawatt industrial site in the U.S. Midwest through a joint venture entity under Hunt Properties, with an investment of $65 million for a 25% equity stake to convert the site into an AI data center.
The company also said it would discontinue its net asset value (NAV) dashboard based solely on Bitcoin holdings, signaling a transformation from a cryptocurrency-related company into an AI infrastructure firm.
CoinDesk quoted co-CEO Ryan Lane saying, "Going forward, we plan to continue to allocate capital to similar hyperscaler-anchored opportunities," tying the next phase to AI data center investments.
Cointelegraph added that Empery’s recent sales trimmed its Bitcoin holdings by 48% to 1,514 Bitcoin, worth $97 million at current prices, leaving the company positioned to potentially sell additional coins as opportunities arise.
