Pezeshkian heads to India
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the Iranian President is scheduled to travel to India on Friday or Saturday to attend the upcoming BRICS summit, framing the trip as strategically important for Tehran’s multilateral partnerships.

Baghaei said, “Multilateral arrangements, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS group, hold great importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran,” and he added that the summit would give Iran a chance to hold bilateral discussions with member states.
The Hindustan Times reported Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia is hopeful BRICS member states can bridge differences between Iran and the United Arab Emirates over the West Asia conflict as India hosts the summit on September 12-13.
Peskov also said Moscow stands ready to help Iran and the UAE normalise their relations, while the Times of India said the BRICS leaders’ meeting is set for September 12-13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Tehran praises ties
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told reporters that Iran’s relationship with India is “very good” and that it “continues to develop,” ahead of President Masoud Pezeshkian’s scheduled visit to New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12–13.
Baghaei said, “India is a member of both the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS. It is also one of the countries with which we have good relations in various areas, particularly trade and economic cooperation,” and he said Iran would use the summit to continue discussions with India on areas of mutual interest.
The Times of India said India will host the annual BRICS summit at Bharat Mandapam on Sept 12-13, and it described the grouping as bringing together 11 major emerging and developing economies including Iran and the UAE.
The Economic Times reported Baghaei said Iran and India share a “long-standing, historic and civilisational relationship” and that Iran would use the BRICS summit to continue discussions with India on areas of mutual interest.
US watch and regional stakes
As Pezeshkian heads to India, the WION report said the US administration will be keenly watching developments and interactions during the BRICS summit, after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned against helping Iran bypass American sanctions.

Rubio told Fox News Radio, “No country should be out there helping them create mechanisms by which they can generate revenue that they will then use to sponsor terrorism and try to build a nuclear weapon,” and he added that countries helping Tehran evade sanctions could face US sanctions.
Hindustan Times said Peskov warned that sharp differences between Iran and the UAE have impacted preparatory meetings and complicated the drafting of the leaders’ declaration for the summit hosted by India over the weekend.
In the same Hindustan Times account, Peskov said the work of drafting the papers is “more complicated” because of those contradictions, but he said Russia and India are on the same page in rejecting the view of BRICS as anti-West.
