Carrick’s two leads
Everton rescued a 2-2 Premier League draw with Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday after twice conceding the lead, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles scoring a stoppage-time equaliser on his debut.

Reuters said Maitland-Niles struck a first-time shot from 30 yards to preserve Everton’s unbeaten start, after Benjamin Sesko’s 88th-minute header had looked to have won it for United.
NBC Sports reported that United were denied back-to-back wins as Everton struck late, and it quoted Carrick saying, “We’re disappointed we didn’t come away with a win.”
NBC Sports also described how United’s second goal came from Benjamin Sesko, but Everton levelled when Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ curler made it 2-2 in the sixth minute of added time.
Reuters added that United were “in 11th place” while Everton were “in eighth with five points from the same number of matches.”

Maitland-Niles told Sky Sports, “It felt like a win,” after Everton “dug deep and managed to get a point in the end,” as the crowd pushed the hosts through the final minutes.
The AP-based report in KTVN quoted United coach Michael Carrick saying, “We’re bitterly disappointed to be up in the position we were in the game twice, so close to the end.”
ESPN’s game analysis highlighted that Maitland-Niles’ stoppage-time equaliser came after Benjamin Sesko’s 88th-minute header had put United on course for victory, and it described the late equaliser as “a dream stoppage-time equaliser.”
The New York Times’ analysis also framed the match as a loss of control after United led twice, noting that “Between Mbeumo’s goal and Sesko’s header to make it 2-1, United did not have a shot on target.”
