Jaramana checkpoint attack
Three Syrian security personnel were wounded after a gunman attacked a security checkpoint at the entrance to the city of Jaramana in the Damascus countryside, according to Syria's state-run SANA news agency.
“An armed man was killed and another arrested, while three members of the Syrian security forces were wounded today, Friday, in an attack at the entrance to the city of Jaramana in the southern Damascus countryside”
SANA said checkpoint personnel stopped two men riding a motorcycle during a routine identity check, after which one suspect drew a handgun, fired several shots into the air, and then threw two hand grenades toward the checkpoint.

The assailant attempted to throw a third grenade, but it exploded in his hand before he could release it, killing him at the scene.
SANA reported that the injured officers were taken to hospital for treatment and that authorities later identified the attacker as a suspect wanted in multiple criminal cases, including murder and drug trafficking.
SANA added that the second man accompanying the attacker was arrested and transferred for questioning, while investigations continued to determine the full circumstances and motive behind the attack.
Hospital, identity, and arrests
Al-Jazeera Net reported that the attack at the entrance to Jaramana in the southern Damascus countryside left three members of the Syrian security forces wounded, with an armed man killed and another arrested.
SANA said the checkpoint personnel stopped two men riding a motorcycle during a routine identity check, and during the search one of the men drew a handgun and fired several rounds into the air before throwing two hand grenades at security personnel.

SANA stated that as the man attempted to throw a third grenade, it exploded before he could release it, killing him instantly.
Al-Jazeera Net said the gunman’s body was transported to Al-Mouassat Hospital in Damascus and his identity was established, after which it became clear he was wanted in cases of murder and drug trafficking.
Al-Jazeera Net also described that the person who was with him was arrested, while investigations continued to uncover the circumstances of the incident and take the necessary legal measures.
Drug trafficking crackdown
Alongside the Jaramana incident, Al-Jazeera Net reported that the Drug Enforcement Administration arrested one of the most prominent drug traffickers in the town of Naseeb in Daraa.
“Damascus, July 3 (SANA) Three security personnel were injured after an assailant attacked a security checkpoint at one of the entrances to the city of Jaramana, south of Damascus, before being killed when a grenade he was attempting to throw exploded, a security source told SANA on Friday”
The report said the operation came after the Drug Enforcement Administration located the whereabouts of a named person (N. F.), and a security force raid led to his arrest with the seizure of 15,960 Captagon tablets and 5,560 pharmaceutical tablets.
Al-Jazeera Net added that the raid also seized medium-sized weapons and ammunition, and that the Drug Enforcement Administration referred the arrestee to the competent authorities for further investigation and to take the necessary legal actions.
Al-Jazeera Net framed the operations as part of Syrian authorities’ efforts to tighten security and pursue criminal networks involved in murders and drugs.
The report linked the crackdown to a broader security push following the regime of Bashar al-Assad being toppled in December 2024.
