Deported from New Orleans

Milo Yiannopoulos was deported from the United States to the United Kingdom after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana, according to the Department of Homeland Security. ABC News reported that the DHS spokesperson said Yiannopoulos "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws," after legally entering the country in 2019.

Reuters said the deportation on Friday came a day after Yiannopoulos, 41, was arrested by ICE, and that he did not appear for an immigration hearing before being issued a final order of removal on July 22. The BBC reported that Yiannopoulos was deported on Friday and described the DHS statement that he was "an illegal alien from the United Kingdom" sent "back to his home country."

DHS, judge, and airport

Multiple outlets tied the removal to a missed immigration hearing, with the DHS saying a judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to show up. CNN reported that Yiannopoulos entered the US legally on May 14, 2019 but "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws," and that he was arrested by ICE on Thursday at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, Louisiana.

The BBC said Yiannopoulos was arrested on 27 August after arriving at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and it quoted the DHS description of his overstay. NBC News said the DHS publicized his arrest as part of a voluntary deportation program offering $3,000 and a free flight home for self-deportation, and it quoted DHS: "Being in detention is a choice."

Loomer celebrates, Trump context

Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and Trump ally, celebrated Yiannopoulos’s removal and posted on social media that his flight back to the UK had already departed. Al Jazeera reported Loomer’s reaction, quoting her: "Milo is going to be deported back to the UK where he can live among the Muslims he has recently chosen to embrace," and it added that she called it "Today is a great day for America."

The Washington Post described the Trump administration using Yiannopoulos’s arrest as a warning to other migrants to self deport, and it said DHS posted his arrest photo on social media offering a free flight and $3,000 for those who chose to "take control of their departure." The BBC added that Yiannopoulos had previously cheered on ICE raids and had called for "total legal immunity for ICE agents when they're on duty," placing his deportation within a broader pattern of his public stance on immigration enforcement.
