Numbers in Qabatiya
Israeli forces raided the occupied West Bank town of Qabatiya near Jenin on Monday, searching more than 100 buildings and detaining residents for questioning while marking some detainees with numbers.

The New Arab reported that the raid included a makeshift interrogation site at the home of Mahmoud Fayed, where his father Mufeed Nazzal was among those detained and where Israeli forces marked the number six on his hand.

Al Jazeera said the Israeli army confirmed that soldiers marked Palestinian detainees with numbers on their foreheads during the raid, and it noted that footage published on Monday showed a Palestinian man with the number "44" written on his forehead.
In the same raid, The New Arab said photos showed detainees including local journalist Mahmoud Zakarneh and Ahmed Al-Hatnawi with black numbers visibly marked on their foreheads and arms, and it described Israeli forces entering Qabatiya shortly after dawn prayers.
Condemnations and admissions
After footage of the raid was shared on social media, The New Arab said the Israeli army acknowledged that its soldiers had marked Palestinian detainees with numbers and stated that commanders had made clear to troops “the seriousness of the act” and that “lessons have been learned”.
Muzaffar Zouqan of the Palestinian Prisoners Society told The New Arab that “The practice…confirms that the Israeli occupation system has given the army the green light to carry out all forms of abuse and humiliation that undermine human dignity against the Palestinian people,” linking the markings to a broader pattern of degrading treatment.

TRT World reported that the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) expressed “horror” over reports that Israeli soldiers had marked Palestinians with numbers on their foreheads and other parts of their bodies.
The CFCM said it “strongly condemns these barbaric acts” and argued that reducing a human being to a simple number inscribed on their body recalls “the darkest periods of European history,” while also saying the Israeli army had not denied the acts but sought to justify them.
West Bank escalation
The New Arab said the raid came amid a sharp escalation in Israeli military and settler violence across the occupied West Bank, and it cited the Palestinian prime minister’s office saying Israeli forces and settlers carried out “more than 467 attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank in the space of a week”.

It added that the same office said “At least 75 Palestinian homes and structures were demolished,” while Al Jazeera reported that the siege of Qusra had reached a “climax” as settler violence and the ongoing siege continued.
Al Jazeera also said the mayor of Qusra told it on Wednesday that he fears the siege could represent a “new approach” aimed at forcing Palestinians from their homes, and it reported that he said families’ food supplies would run out within two days.
In a separate account of the broader campaign, the Washington Institute described an Israeli operation in northern West Bank that began on August 27 and said it involved three brigades operating at multiple sites simultaneously, while also citing Shin Bet figures about attacks in the area.
