Abstract to shut down December 15, 2026 after tens of millions losses Igloo will redirect resources to Pudgy Penguins and PENG, halting consumer L2

Abstract to wind down
Abstract, the consumer-focused Ethereum layer-2 network built by Pudgy Penguins parent company Igloo Inc., said it will shut down this year after failing to achieve product-market fit and struggling to scale.
Abstract launched its mainnet in January 2025, and the project said its focus on “consumer crypto” ultimately proved to be an unsustainable business model.

Igloo CEO Luca Netz said, “After losing tens of millions of dollars over two years, building consumer products, assembling an all-star team, onboarding some of the biggest brands in the world, and building a community of millions, we still had not found product-market fit.”
Abstract told users to bridge assets off the chain, with the on-chain environment shutting down on Dec. 15, 2026, and any funds not bridged by the deadline becoming inaccessible.
Numbers, apps, users
Abstract said it deployed more than 144 apps on the network and onboarded more than 400,000 users, while citing partnerships with brands including Red Bull Racing and Disney.
Igloo said it funded Abstract for roughly the prior 18 months, and Luca Netz said the company “lost tens of millions of dollars over two years” while building consumer offerings.

Abstract’s shutdown announcement also set a hard deadline, and it directed users to bridge their assets off the network before Dec. 15, 2026 through the Migration Hub or its native bridge.
Pluang said Igloo shut down Abstract on December 15, 2026 after incurring losses in the tens of millions, and it added that users must move assets by the same date or funds left on the chain will become inaccessible.
What happens next
Abstract said its engineering and ecosystem team will work with Abstract-based projects to migrate to other chains, and it also advised users to use its Migration Hub or native bridge rather than impersonators or fake migration sites. BigGo Finance said the native bridge carries an expected delay of three hours, and it stated that anyone who fails to bridge funds before the deadline will lose access to them permanently.
Abstract’s team wrote, “Operating a chain focused exclusively on consumer crypto has ultimately proven to be unsustainable as a standalone model,” framing the closure as the best path forward. Igloo said it would redirect resources toward Pudgy Penguins, Pudgy NFTs, and the PENGU token, and it said it opted against an Abstract token issuance or an initial coin offering to finance the venture.
