Mecca pact alarms India
Retired Indian Maj.-Gen. Gagan Deep Bakshi warned that a growing alignment among Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan could pose a strategic threat to India, arguing that New Delhi would not sacrifice its ties with Iran to accommodate Israel’s security concerns.

Speaking to the New Delhi-based network, Republic World, Bakshi said a “Sunni NATO” has been established “in the Middle East, in Mecca,” and called it “a serious cause for concern.”
Bakshi framed Shi'ite Iran as a counterweight to Pakistan, saying, “We very much need Shi'ite Iran to be on our side because Pakistan is our primary security headache.”
He also compared how Iran and Pakistan are perceived, claiming, “Iran does not have even a single nuclear bomb, and yet it is perceived as an existential threat to Israel.”
Israel, India, and pushback
Bakshi sent a message to Israel that the alliance between the two countries is important, but that India would not subordinate its interests to Israeli needs, saying, “We are not the 51st state of the United States, and for that matter we are also not an appendage or client state of Israel.”
He added that India cannot be told to “Throw Iran away because you are at war with it,” stressing, “When it comes to Iran, you cannot ask us to sacrifice our interests.”
In a separate account, Aurora Israel described Israeli officials warning that the “Mecca Agreements” could become an independent Muslim security bloc that would undermine normalization efforts and weaken Israel’s regional position.
Aurora Israel quoted a senior Israeli official saying, “This is the development that currently worries Israeli policymakers,” as Israel considers compensatory alliances to balance the emerging Sunni axis.

Bakshi argued that India cannot afford to give up routes tied to Iran, saying, “Iran provides India with the land bridge to Central Asia and the land bridge to Afghanistan, and these are of vital importance to us.”

He warned that India would not close those land routes because of the Israel-Iran war, stating, “We cannot close these land routes because Israel is at war with Iran.”
Aurora Israel said Israeli officials fear the Mecca Agreements could evolve into an independent regional security architecture, potentially becoming a third bloc distinct from the Iranian axis and the United States–Israel alliance.
The same Aurora Israel account described the combined capabilities as more consequential than the sum of individual strengths, stating, “The combination of these three powers could be far more consequential than the sum of their individual capabilities.”
