Axon Tasers in “Hell Wing”
A joint investigation by The Guardian and ARIJ says Israeli occupation forces use electric shock devices manufactured by the American company Axon to torture Palestinian detainees inside Israeli prisons. The investigation included testimony from a Palestinian prisoner identified by the alias “Issa,” who said he was taken to the “Hell Wing” of an Israeli prison and that a guard “fired two rubber bullets at him, causing him to fall to the ground.”
Issa said the guards tightly bound him despite the fact that he had lost his legs due to an Israeli shell attack on his home in the Jabalya refugee camp, and he said he was shocked with an electric weapon later identified as a Taser from Axon. The investigation said more than a year and a half later, “the electric shock marks remained visible on the Palestinian prisoner’s body,” and it cited the International Council for Rehabilitation of Torture Victims on the “convergence of the double scars.”
Contracts despite torture claims
The investigation said Axon continued to supply Israel with Taser electric shock devices despite evidence of their use in torturing Palestinian prisoners. The investigation quoted a prisoner who said he was doused with water on his body before being electroshocked with a Taser during his 2024 detention, and the prisoner said he still suffers from severe vision impairment, convulsions, and repeated fainting spells.
The investigation also said Axon presented its latest electroshock weapon models to Israeli security agencies at a conference held in Israel in June 2025. An Israeli army spokesperson told the newspaper that mistreatment of prisoners is completely prohibited and that restraint measures are used only “in exceptional circumstances justified by Israeli law, international law, and Israeli army orders.”
UN alarm and wider toll
The investigation said the UN Committee against Torture issued a report in November 2025 on torture cases inside Israeli detention centers, including the use of electric shocks. The committee said “cases of torture and ill-treatment have risen sharply since October 7, 2023,” and it expressed “deep concern about widespread allegations of sexual assaults against Palestinian prisoners, including rape, sexual torture, and electric shocks to the genitals and the anus.”
The investigation cited a coalition of Israeli non-governmental organizations estimating that 92 Palestinian prisoners have died in custody since October 2023, while only one Israeli soldier has faced trial for abusing Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip. Amnesty International called for restrictions on exports of electric shock devices, and the investigation said the report raised questions about continued delivery of American-made devices to Israel in light of testimonies and accusations of their use.
