Iran Ballistic Missiles Damage U.S. Aircraft at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan

Iran launched ballistic missiles toward Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, damaging multiple U.S. military aircraft overnight Tuesday into Wednesday local time, with one A-10 Thunderbolt losing a wing and roughly eight F-15s sustaining light damage.

A U.S. official told Reuters that the Iranian strikes damaged multiple American military aircraft at the base, and the damage came after the U.S. said it destroyed five Iranian oil tankers Tuesday.

CBS News reported that “No U.S. deaths have been reported in the strikes on Jordan,” while people with direct knowledge told the outlet that the A-10 was struck and lost a wing and about eight F-15s were put back into service.C

Jordanian air defenses intercepted 18 of the 20 ballistic missiles fired at their territory during the attack, and the remaining two missiles fell in uninhabited areas with no fatalities or injuries among military personnel or the civilian population.

President Trump denied reports that Iranian forces damaged U.S. war planes during a raid on an air base in Jordan, telling NewsNation’s Robert Sherman, “None whatsoever. No damage. No nothing,” when asked whether there is “any truth” to the reports.

CBS News said the overnight damage came after the U.S. attacked five Iranian tankers Tuesday in retaliation for Iran targeting a U.S. CNavy warship, and it reported that U.S. forces launched more than 30 Patriot missiles defending against the Iranian strikes in Jordan.

A U.S. official speaking to Fox News said, “Iran's response was ineffective against the integrated air and missile defenses,” adding that U.S. forces had “100% situational awareness of all their personnel at all locations in Jordan.”

An Iranian lawmaker, Ebrahim Azizi, urged U.S. troops to “go home while you still can,” writing on social media platform X: “Iran is responsible for security and stability in the Persian Gulf.”

The attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base followed U.S. strikes on five Iranian oil tankers Tuesday, and the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed its strikes were aimed at “maintenance and deployment sites” for F-35, F-16 and F-15 fighter jets at the Jordanian base.
