Pause, Threat, and Timing

Iran’s army warned on Sunday that the Middle East war would widen if the United States chose to press ahead with attacks on the Islamic Republic, ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington.

Iran said it has halted retaliatory attacks in the region after the United States stopped its strikes on the country for the past two nights, and army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said, “Since… our strategy has essentially been retaliatory, we have also halted our retaliatory operations.”

Al-Ain Al-IkhbariyahAl-Ain Al-Ikhbariyah

Akraminia also said he believed Israel was trying to prod the US into resuming attacks, adding, “I believe that if the Americans once again fall for the Zionists’ deception.”

The Times of Israel reported that on Friday Israel said Netanyahu will meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, after private presentations by Netanyahu to Trump on Iran’s nuclear activities and alleged violations of its commitments reportedly played a role in the US decision to strike Iran.

Diplomatic Window vs Escalation

DW reported that American ambassador Mike Waltz said Trump is giving talks with Iran a “limited window,” telling Fox News, “It gives the negotiations some breathing room, but a limited opportunity.”

In parallel, The Times of Israel said Akraminia predicted Washington was now looking “for a new strategy,” while also warning that the war had already expanded to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait at the entrance of the Red Sea.

The Fararu-linked report in فرارو described the pause in attacks as a temporary shift while speculations continued about whether the war would continue or stop, and it cited claims that Trump halted attacks on Iran.

The العربي الجديد framed the same de-escalation as opening a “limited” diplomatic window, quoting Mike Wallace saying Trump is giving Iran talks a “limited” window and adding that AP described the pause as a “positive signal” that helps efforts to de-escalate.

What’s at Stake Next

The Monte Carlo International report said the New York Times reported that President Donald Trump postponed plans to widen the military campaign against Iran amid concerns about exhausting stockpiles of Patriot missiles and munitions allocated to U.S. air defense systems.

It also tied the delay to warnings that resuming large-scale military operations could lead to a dangerous drop in interceptor missile stocks needed to protect American forces in the Middle East, especially after the killing of three American soldiers in Jordan last Friday when a ballistic missile penetrated American defenses during an Iranian attack.

In Washington’s political arena, IRNA reported that The Hill predicted escalating war with Iran could reduce Republicans’ turnout in the midterm elections for Congress, and it cited a Politico poll showing that only 37 percent of Trump supporters would back the war if it leads to higher prices.

IRNA further reported that the congressional midterm elections will be held on November 3, 2026 (November 12, 1405), placing the next domestic test for Trump’s Iran policy on the calendar while the pause and negotiations continue.
