Al-Madani held again
On July 30, 2026, Israeli authorities issued a six-month administrative detention order against Palestinian prisoner Mohammad Ahmad Abdel Wahab al-Madani, 32, on the day he was scheduled to be released after spending more than 12 years in prison, the Palestinian Prisoner Society said Thursday.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society said al-Madani was from Askar refugee camp east of Nablus in the northern West Bank, and that he had been due to complete his original 12-year jail sentence on May 30, 2026.
WAFA Agency reported that al-Madani’s release was scheduled for Wednesday after completing a prison sentence of 12 years and two months, but his family arrived at the checkpoint to receive him and was surprised by a call from his lawyer informing them that Israeli intelligence had issued a six-month administrative detention order, preventing his release.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club said the administrative detention order is issued by the Israeli military governor of the West Bank for several months, renewable under a secret file and without a trial or indictment, and described al-Madani as “not an exceptional case.”
Numbers and policy debate
Anadolu Ajansı | West Asian said the Palestinian Prisoner Society described al-Madani’s case as falling within an Israeli policy that has seen an “unprecedented expansion” in administrative detention against Palestinians, especially since the start of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza in October 2023.
The same Anadolu Ajansı report said the number of new and renewed administrative detention orders has exceeded 20,000 since the start of the Gazawar, while the number of administrative detainees reached 3,244 by early July.
Haaretz | Israeli provided an editorial framing focused on Israel’s defense and political priorities, stating, “The only thing that holds the attention of Defense Minister Israel Katz is the Likud party primary.”
In a separate report, Latest news from Azerbaijan | Asian said Israeli security operations in the West Bank have led to the arrest of more than 3,600 Palestinians since the beginning of the year, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, and said the detainees include women and children.
Calls to end detention
The Palestinian Prisoners Club said administrative detention has affected children, women, the elderly, the sick, and the wounded, and cited that the occupation acknowledged detaining 180 children under administrative detention by the end of last year.

WAFA Agency reported that the PPS said the occupation admitted holding 180 children under administrative detention up to the end of last year, while dozens of women have been subjected to the measure since the beginning of the genocide.
WAFA Agency also said the PPS called on the international community, the United Nations, and relevant mechanisms including the Special Rapporteurs, the Independent International Commission of Inquiry, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities and take immediate and concrete steps to end the arbitrary policy of administrative detention.
Anadolu Ajansı | West Asian added that the Palestinian Prisoner Society said Israeli authorities did not exclude children, women, the elderly, the sick or the wounded from administrative detention, and it called on the international community, the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to act urgently to pressure Israel to end its administrative detention policy and release administrative detainees.
