Strike in Deir al-Balah
An Israeli airstrike killed two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday, Gaza medics said.
Gaza medics said the strike near a bakery in Deir Al-Balah killed one man, Hussam Nusair, a three-year-old boy, Tayyem Hamdan, and wounded several others.
The Israeli military said it attacked and killed a Hamas militant, and said that Nusair advanced attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.
Hamas accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire and undermining efforts to implement a broader plan by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the Gaza conflict, which also includes Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
Ceasefire and competing claims
A U.S.-backed ceasefire last October halted major fighting in the shattered territory, but it failed to end strikes by the Israeli military, which it said aimed to thwart attacks by Hamas and other Gaza militants. Gazan health officials told CBC that more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect last October.

Wider war context
In parallel with the Gaza strikes, Haaretz reported that U.S. President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated video purporting to show Iran's Kharg Island "being blown to smithereens," amid escalating tensions following the first U.S. strike on Iranian targets in roughly a month.
Haaretz also said Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned other ships that violating its security rules would result in the same fate after a supertanker was struck by two naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz.
The EU said it would continue to work with the United States and other G7 and international partners to keep up pressure on Iran, and it referenced additional economic pressure through the U.S.-led Operation Economic Outcast.
In Gaza, Al Jazeera said the deaths came amid near-daily Israeli attacks despite the so-called ceasefire, with at least 1,303 Palestinians killed and 4,336 injured since it began.
