Israeli Drone Strikes Kill Five in Gaza City and Khan Younis, Health Officials Say

Israeli drone strikes killed five people including a child in Gaza City, according to Gaza health officials, with Al Aqsa Hospital saying, "Three people were killed and several injured when an Israeli drone struck a group of civilians," and adding that one victim was a child aged eight years old.

Gaza's civil defence agency said the strike hit an area in Deir el Balah in central Gaza, and an Israeli military source confirmed the attack.

Later, Gaza's civil defence agency reported two people killed and more than 27 injured in an Israeli air strike on a tent on Khan Younis beach in the south of the territory, with Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis confirming receiving the bodies of the dead.

In Deir al-Balah, a separate AP report said a drone strike hit a tent and killed at least three Palestinians including an 8-year-old boy and his grandfather, with Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital identifying Hassan al-Hanagra and his 8-year-old grandchild, Malik Abu Shawish, along with another man.

AP also reported that in Khan Younis a strike hit a tent in the Al-Mawasi neighborhood after a warning call, killing a 23-year-old mother and her one-year-old daughter west of Khan Younis.

AP reported that Israel's military said a strike in Gaza was targeting a militant, but did not immediately name him or say if he was killed.

The same AP account described how a strike hit a tent sheltering displaced people along the coastal area of Khan Younis, killing two people and wounding 13 others, with the wounded transferred to a field hospital run by the Palestinian Red Crescent in Al-Mawasi.

AP further stated that the Gaza Health Ministry maintains detailed casualty records seen as generally reliable by U.N. agencies and independent experts, while also noting that it does not give a breakdown of civilians and militants.

The Oman Observer account said a ceasefire is in place in the Israel-Hamas war but it has not ended the violence and progress towards a final deal has stalled, while also citing that at least 1,045 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect on October 10 last year.

AP reported that Israeli forces have carried out near-daily strikes even after the heaviest fighting subsided since a ceasefire took hold in October, and it said the strikes have killed 1,045 Palestinians including more than 360 women and children.

AP also reported that Israel's campaign in Gaza has killed more than 73,058 Palestinians, including those killed since the ceasefire, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, and it added that the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack on Israel killed some 1,200 people and saw 251 taken hostage.

In the occupied West Bank, AP said the Palestinian Health Ministry reported a 15-year-old from Jerusalem was killed by a gunshot to the head near Ramallah, and it said the Israeli military did not comment immediately.

Al Jazeera reported that Israeli attacks killed at least eight Palestinians including two children in Gaza and a 15-year-old boy in the occupied West Bank, and it quoted Ramallah and el-Bireh governor Laila Ghannam saying, "Today, we witnessed a clear-cut execution in broad daylight," while adding that his killing was "a disgrace to all institutions who claim to uphold democracy and human rights".
