Deaths in raids

Israeli forces killed at least two Palestinians in separate shooting incidents in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, including the death of 32-year-old Mustafa Taha Mustafa al-Khatib “at dawn today after being shot by Israeli occupation forces in Salfit”. Al Jazeera reported that al-Khatib was killed after Israeli forces stormed his home and shot him dead, and his uncle Yassin Khatib described the killing as a “cold-blooded execution”. The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said Israeli soldiers surrounded a house in the town of Ya’bad, west of Jenin, before shooting Mohammad Nazem Zayed, 29, directly and subsequently withholding his body.

In Gaza, Al Jazeera said a drone strike hit a group of pedestrians near the Italian Complex in Gaza City’s Nassr neighbourhood, wounding two people, one critically, while Gaza’s Health Ministry said Israeli violations of the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025 have killed 1,031 Palestinians and injured 3309 others. Al Jazeera also said the Palestinian health ministry put the number of Palestinians killed in the West Bank since the beginning of the year at 72, including 17 children, five women, and two elderly people.

UN panel and denials

A UN commission found that Israeli forces have continued genocide against Palestinians by deliberately targeting children, with CNN citing a report published Tuesday that said Israeli military operations have continued causing “unprecedented death, injury and trauma” to Palestinian children. CNN quoted Srinivasan Muralidhar, chairman of the commission, saying “Even after the October 2025 ceasefire, children continue to be killed and seriously injured, with continued disregard by Israel for the ceasefire”.

The Israeli government denied the findings, and CNN reported the Foreign Ministry called the report “a propaganda piece as outrageous as its previous ones,” while Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, called it a “political blood libel disguised as a UN document.” CNN said the commission described deliberate targeting of children as a key indicator of genocidal intent, including after a ceasefire in Gaza took effect, and it said the report described conditions imposed on Gaza since the ceasefire as “multi-layered harm to Palestinian children’s survival, health and development.”

Detention, death penalty

Beyond battlefield deaths, Democracy Now! said Palestinian journalist Mujahid Bani Mufleh released images taken before and after he was jailed by Israel without charge in a so-called administrative detention, and it said he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage just two days after his release and had to have part of his skull removed. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society told Democracy Now! that “thousands … have been subjected to systematic violations inside Israeli prisons, including torture, starvation, denial of treatment, physical and psychological assaults, in addition to continuous psychological terror.” In parallel, El Watan reported that a bill on the application (and execution) of the death penalty for nearly 10,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees moved to the final decision stage in the Israeli Parliament (the Knesset), with the vote scheduled for Monday before the Easter holidays.

El Watan quoted B’Tselem’s Yoav Shemer-Kunz saying, “This text provides for the execution of the death penalty within 90 days, with no possibility of clemency,” and it said Amnesty International warned of a “dangerous step toward entrenched discrimination against Palestinians.” El Watan also quoted Rouhi Fattouh, president of the Palestinian National Council, saying the bill reflects “a vindictive tendency and organized state terrorism, providing legislative cover to the policies of physical elimination carried out by the occupying authorities against prisoners”.
