Incursions and abductions
Israeli occupation forces infiltrated the town of Beit Jen in western Rif Damascus and the village of al-Hurriya in northern Rif Quneitra, while they also penetrated the outskirts of Wadi ar-Raqad and Wadi Abdeen in western Rif Dara on Saturday. Syria Now reported that Israeli occupation forces abducted a young man on the outskirts of the village of al-Hurriya in northern Rif Quneitra during their incursion into the area. In western Rif Dara, Israeli occupation forces penetrated with 3 tanks on the outskirts of Wadi ar-Raqad, and a patrol consisting of 8 vehicles entered Wadi Abdeen.
UNDOF inspected yesterday the site where artillery shells fired by the Israeli army landed near the village of Saidah al-Hanout in southern Rif Quneitra. The Center for Documentation of Israeli Occupation Violations recorded a total of 280 violations by Israeli occupation forces during September, an increase of about 5 percent compared with August, which saw 267 violations.
Land losses and UN stance
SANA said residents of Rif Quneitra faced severe livelihood challenges due to agricultural land bulldozing and restricting movement within their lands, in addition to direct seizure of large areas to establish military points and fortifications. The mukhtar of the village of Rawahinah, Mohammad al-Ahmad, said the Israeli occupation seized between 5,000 and 6,000 dunams of the village’s lands and that anyone who attempts to approach exposes themselves to direct targeting. Syria Now’s correspondent quoted landowners as saying they were forced to go early in the morning to gather as much of the harvest as they could before patrols of the occupation came to harass them and drive them out of lands on which security-area measures were imposed.
Ibrahim Al-Labi, the Syrian delegate to the United Nations, told the United Nations General Assembly on October 23 that Syria “has chosen to bear its responsibility with courage and to protect, with its commitment and cooperation, a global system that is cracking under the weight of violations.” Claudio Cordone told the UN Security Council that he reiterated the Secretary-General’s call for an end of the violations of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and full respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Olive trees, hectares, and daily operations
On October 18, Israeli occupation forces uprooted 400 olive trees on an area of 11 dunams belonging to one of the families in the village of Saidah al-Hanout in southern Rif Quneitra.
The same account said the uprooting came due to lands falling in the path of the occupation’s incursion, and it described a series of assaults affecting dozens of hectares in the Rif Quneitra and Rif Dara regions through uprooting, use of chemical pesticides, or preventing farmers from accessing their lands.
Asia al-Ali, the director of agricultural affairs in Quneitra, said Israeli occupation forces seized about 1,160 hectares in Quneitra, and she explained that spraying of agricultural pesticides damaged about 550 hectares while clearing about 500 hectares affected farmers’ livelihoods.
SANA said Israeli occupation forces continued to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through repeated incursions into southern Syria, raiding civilian homes and detaining residents, bulldozing land and carrying out attacks using shells and other weapons.
The english.almanar.lb report said Claudio Cordone detailed extensive construction work, checkpoints, searches and detentions alongside the fatal shooting of a civilian near an Israeli military position on Oct. 5.
