Weekend tensions across fronts

Israel’s military is heading into another tense weekend as developments across Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, and Iran raise “the risk of rapid escalation,” according to Ynetnews.

In Lebanon, Ynetnews says a deadly explosion that killed two reserve soldiers ended a period of relative calm along the northern border, and the IDF continues investigating the blast in the village of Majdal Zoun.

In Gaza, Ynetnews reports a new directive requiring the military chief of staff's approval for every strike has “effectively ended months of aggressive operations targeting Hamas' elite Nukhba force.”

In the West Bank, Ynetnews says orders to seize another Palestinian refugee camp are stretching already overextended forces, while in Iran it says Israel is preparing additional operational plans and that “U.S. President Donald Trump” halted a planned attack over the past month.

Ynetnews also says Israeli and U.S. forces remain in close daily contact with regular meetings to coordinate operational plans, including “offensive and defensive planning.”

Lebanon ceasefire frictions

The Lebanese Army says Israeli forces continue assaults and violations in the south, and it lists areas including Kfar Taabniyat in Nabatieh, Hadata and Kounine in Bint Jbeil, Nabaa Ijl al-Saqi, al-Mansouri, Bayt al-Siyad, and Majdal Zoun in Tyre District. The same account says Israeli forces seized debris in border areas and blew up the water project of the National River of Litani in the town of Markaba in the Marjeyoun District, and it adds that the attacks coincided with gunfire near deployment points in Kfar Taabniyat, Nabatieh al-Fouqa, and Zawtara al-Gharbiya. Hezbollah, according to the West Asian report, emphasizes that the current ceasefire cannot be stable or final unless there is a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories and the cessation of air strikes inside the south.

The report also quotes Israel’s position that “any Hezbollah activity south of the border is a red line,” and it says the current ceasefire is conditional on Hezbollah ceasing operations and staying away from the border strip. It further notes that the United Nations repeatedly warns the situation could slide into a wider confrontation if a ceasefire is not effectively stabilized, while acknowledging that mediation faces difficulties due to a lack of trust among parties and ongoing ground operations.

Al-Mansouri and drone incidents

Local reporting says Israeli tanks entered the Chmaysa region near Kfarshuba with ground forces, and it adds that two Israeli Merkava-type tanks were moving toward the Chmaysa area within the perimeter of the town of Kfarshuba since 6:00 AM. Daily Beirut reports that artillery strikes targeted localities in southern Lebanon, including a bombardment near Ali al-Taher Hill near the town of Nabatieh al-Fouqa, and it says the National News Agency reported shelling targeting the neighborhood of al-Munṣūri in the Sidon (Saida) district. In Al-Mansouri, صدى البلد says the Lebanese army attempted to enter and fully deploy in the town, but the Israeli occupation army briefly targeted a Lebanese army bulldozer, initially leaving one soldier injured.

The same report says residents of Al-Mansouri left the town after warnings from the Israeli army, and it adds that the Lebanese army asked for reinforcements but the strike on the bulldozer was intended to deter deployment and facilitate the return of the displaced. Separately, the الهيئة الوطنية للإعلام says an Israeli drone crashed near a house in Kefr Rumman after a technical malfunction, injuring a citizen and her child, and it says the injured were taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
