Al Jazeera reported that Palestinian farmer Jaber described surviving an attempted murder by Israeli settlers while harvesting thyme on his land, saying a settler knocked him to the ground from behind and tried to stab him in his abdomen.

Al Jazeera also reported that settlers set fire to a house in the town of Turmusayya, leaving behind ashes and ruin, and that the homeowners narrowly survived because they were not at home at the moment of the attack.

Voices and competing frames

Le Figaro described Hebron residents facing “the specter of annexation,” reporting that on Sunday, at the proposal of Bezalel Smotrich, the Israeli Security Cabinet made decisions that “greatly worry the city's religious authorities.”

In Hebron, Sheikh Abdoul Rahman al-Saïd told Le Figaro, “Every day, the Israelis close the doors for two or three hours, with no valid reason. Only to oppress people,” as worshippers were prevented from entering the sanctuary.

Amnesty International said Palestinians in Gaza remain in shock from the “genocide orchestrated by Israel against them,” and it stated that “Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed or seriously injured in the occupied Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.”

In a separate Al Jazeera account, Palestinian farmer Jaber said, “three settlers attacked Jaber with a knife longer than 40 cm,” describing the wound in his left foot and telling Al Jazeera’s correspondent Tharwat Shuqra that the assault would not break his will.

Escalation, displacement, and risk

Al Jazeera reported that the West Bank has seen “a continuing escalation” since the outbreak of the war of annihilation in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, and it said the escalation has left at least 1,155 Palestinians dead, about 11,750 injured, and around 22,000 arrested, according to official Palestinian figures.

The same Al Jazeera report said that “Some 750,000 Israeli settlers live in 141 settlements and 224 outposts in the West Bank,” including about 250,000 in East Jerusalem, which the United Nations regards as part of the occupied Palestinian territories.

UNICEF, as cited by Al Jazeera, said that a Palestinian child is killed on average every week in the occupied West Bank since January 2025, totaling 70 children during this period, with 93% of them killed by Israeli forces.

Amnesty International warned that the consequences of Israel’s occupation and apartheid regime are “increasingly deadly and destructive,” and it said the blockade and recurring military operations have “plunged the Gaza Strip into one of the gravest humanitarian and human rights crises of our time.”
