Jabalia police post hit

Israeli drone and airstrikes hit a police station in Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Tuesday, killing at least eight people including the station’s director, according to local officials and Gaza’s Interior Ministry.

The Oman Observer reported that an Israeli strike and gunfire killed at least nine Palestinians, including a 10-year-old boy and a senior Hamas police officer, in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

In Jabalia, the Gaza Interior Ministry said those killed included Col. Mohammed Marwan Salem, director of the Jabalia refugee camp police station, along with several police officers and personnel after an Israeli strike targeted a police post in the area, while witnesses told Anadolu that the drone struck in an area crowded with tents sheltering displaced Palestinians and temporary evacuation centers.

The Al Jazeera report said the attack took place Tuesday afternoon in al-Faluja in western Jabalia, and it described the strike as a “horrific massacre against officers and members of the police force.”

Ceasefire violations and numbers

The strikes came amid continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, with Middle East Monitor citing Palestinian officials as saying at least 11 Palestinians, including the director of the police station in Jabalia refugee camp, were killed in a series of Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.

Oman Observer said the deaths add to a toll of more than 1,100 Palestinians killed by Israeli attacks since an October ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect, while it also said four Israeli soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza over the same period.

Al Jazeera’s report said Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7, 2023 has killed at least 73,233 people and injured 173,707, according to a Health Ministry statement released earlier on Tuesday.

In the same Al Jazeera account, a child aged 10, Muataz Abu Shaar, was reported killed in Rafah after being hit by heavy machinegun fire, and the report quoted its correspondent saying, “Just another child, another grieving family, another reminder of the human cost of the ongoing genocidal act.”

Humanitarian and political stakes

Oman Observer said Hamas leaders visited Cairo for further talks on implementing the second phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan, with discussions including Hamas disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals and Hamas saying Israel’s violations of the ceasefire are a key obstacle to implementing the second phase.

Sources in Gaza's hospitals said on Tuesday that 11 people were killed, including a child and a woman, and several others were wounded by Israeli fire in various areas of the Strip, including an airstrike that hit a police checkpoint in Jabalia refugee camp in the north

In parallel, Al Jazeera’s coverage tied the Jabalia attack to a broader pattern of deadly strikes that continued regularly despite a “ceasefire” agreed last October, and it described the police station’s role as maintaining “law and order and organisation” in an area known as a marketplace in the middle of a displacement camp.

Middle East Monitor reported that the Gaza Interior Ministry said those killed included Col. Mohammed Marwan Salem and several police officers and personnel after an Israeli strike targeted a police post, while it also said the bodies of seven Palestinians were taken to Al-Shifa Medical Complex and the American field hospital after an Israeli strike near Shadia School in the Al-Falouja area west of Jabalia refugee camp.

The Oman Observer account also said a United Nations official warned that Hamas was disrupting aid distribution in the Gaza Strip, quoting UN Deputy Special Coordinator Ramiz Alakbarov saying, “These incidents are not isolated. They are completely unacceptable and reflect an increasingly dangerous pattern of intimidation, violence and obstruction.”
