Sky News said Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool’s controlling shareholder since 2010, is preparing to make an announcement about a transaction as soon as this week.

Reuters reported that the investor group also includes Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder, and that the consortium is being led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.

Reuters said the investment would reportedly value the club at approximately £4.4 billion ($5.9 billion), making it one of the biggest valuations ever achieved in a football club deal.

FSG spokesperson last month said, "An investment consortium led, managed and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."

Who’s In the Group

Sky Sports said the consortium is led by Amit Bhatia and includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, with Bezos part of the investor group as Fenway Sports Group prepares an announcement.

Sky Sports described Bhatia as a 46-year-old British Indian entrepreneur who manages a multi-asset investment firm called AyBe Capital and is married to Vanisha Mittal Bhatia, the daughter of Lakshmi Mittal.

The BBC said the group is led by Amit Bhatia and also includes Eduardo Saverin, and that Fenway Sports Group confirmed last month that the group had "expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."

The BBC added that Bhatia had been a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers for 18 years before relinquishing his stake last month, while Reuters said the consortium is being led by Bhatia and that Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group could announce a deal as early as this week.

Forbes reported that Bezos is the third-richest person in the world with a fortune estimated at $280.6 billion as of Monday morning, while Saverin is reportedly worth $33 billion.

Valuation and What Changes

Sky News said the deal would see Bezos participate in an investor group alongside Eduardo Saverin, and that the consortium’s investment would reportedly value the club at $6bn.

The Guardian said the consortium is close to completing a deal for a 30% stake in Liverpool after months of talks with Fenway Sports Group, and that the investors will pay in the region of £1.35bn.

Reuters said the investment comes at a time of significant change on and off the pitch at Anfield, with Liverpool finishing a disappointing fifth in the Premier League last season despite spending about £446 million on new players.

Reuters also said Liverpool parted ways with Dutch manager Arne Slot and appointed former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, while Mohamed Salah departed, and Michael Edwards left his role as chief executive officer of football at Fenway Sports Group in July.

The BBC reported that Liverpool became the top-earning Premier League club for the first time in January, and that the following month the club announced record revenues of £703m for 2024-25 financial year.
