Macron invites Aoun to Paris
President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received Bruno Leirra da Silva, the Chargé d’Affaires of France in Lebanon, at Baabda Palace this morning, who delivered a written message from French President Emmanuel Macron inviting Lebanon to participate in a preparatory meeting in Paris on September 17.

The invitation was conveyed as part of Lebanon’s participation in the preparatory meeting for the international conference to support the Lebanese armed forces and internal security forces, with the meeting described as aimed at enabling the Lebanese army to possess the necessary capabilities and resources to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.
The meeting will include army leaders from several countries in addition to representatives of international governmental organizations and experts, and President Aoun thanked President Macron for inviting Lebanon to participate.
In the same session, Deputy Prime Minister Tayyab Metri received a briefing session with Dr. Tariq Metri to discuss current political developments and general conditions in Lebanon and the region, while former minister Jihad Azzour briefed Aoun on the general situation in Lebanon and the region and the current economic and financial developments.
Five-party committee and Rome
The Lebanese presidency said the invitation came from the Chargé d’Affaires of France in Lebanon, Bruno Da Silva, with the message from Emmanuel Macron inviting Lebanon to a preparatory meeting in Paris on September 17 for the International Conference to Support the Lebanese Armed Forces and Internal Security Forces.
annahar reported that the Five-Party Committee, which includes France, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt, had planned to organize an international conference to support the Lebanese Armed Forces on March 5, but it was postponed after the outbreak of war on March 2.
annahar also said Aoun will travel this week to Rome for discussions focused especially on the future of international forces in the south of the country after the UN peacekeeping mission UNIFIL ends later this year, and that the planned visit on Thursday includes a meeting with Pope John Paul II in the Vatican.
In the same report, Aoun told the Board of Directors of the National Council for Scientific Research, chaired by Dr. Asaad Eid, “We have returned Lebanon to the map of the world, and we will continue to work on rebuilding the state,” adding that “the greatest challenge is reconstruction after Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied towns and villages.”
