The Russian Defense Ministry also warned of measures to “respond promptly to provocations,” and threatened that the risk of a direct confrontation could rise because U.S. reconnaissance flights and drones regularly operate over the Black Sea.

In parallel, the report said that a Ukrainian military UAV crossed into Belarus and that a quadcopter from Kyiv was shot down in the Belarusian region of Gomel by border guards, after which Belarus announced steps to reinforce the border with Ukraine.

Evacuation orders near Belarus

In Ukraine’s north, the Chernihiv Oblast Defense Council ordered a mandatory evacuation of 12 villages along the Belarus border beginning July 1, with regional governor Viacheslav Chaus saying the evacuation was requested by the Ukrainian military.

Chaus said municipal and regional authorities estimate about 1,000 people remain in the settlements, including about 120 children, and he said “Resettlement of people is a mandatory condition.”

The LIGA.net report said the evacuation will begin on July 1 and apply to specific villages in four communities, including Prybyn, Shyshkovka, and Rudnia in the Koryukivka community and Lemeshivka and Moshchenka in the Gorodnya district.

It also said the Defense Council extended mandatory evacuation measures for seven border villages where the order had been declared back in the winter, with some residents already leaving while others submitted written refusals.

Energy strikes and diplomatic friction

Ukrainian forces struck Russia’s Orenburg Gas Processing Plant and two satellite communications centers in their latest nighttime attacks, with Ukraine’s General Staff saying the operation targeted energy facilities and military industries.

The General Staff report said the attack set the complex on fire and described Orenburg as more than 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) behind the front line, while also saying the plant produces helium used in liquid-fuel rocket engines and guidance systems.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that “It is important that as many Russians as possible come to understand that it is the Russian leadership’s rejection of diplomacy that is prolonging the war,” and he said Moscow ordered the redeployment of some air defense systems from Russian regions to the capital and to Crimea’s Kerch Bridge.

In a separate briefing report, Ouest-France said Kyiv denied Moscow’s accusations of a Ukrainian drone attack on Vladimir Putin’s residence and quoted Zelenskyy repeating that these accusations were “false,” while also reporting Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov warned that the consequences would harden Russia’s negotiating position.
