Michigan finale canceled
LIV Golf’s season-ending Team Championship in Michigan is reported canceled, with The Telegraph saying players were told the Aug. 27-30 event would not be taking place at The Cardinal at Saint John’s in Plymouth.
“The tickets you were looking for are no longer available.”
Sky Sports reported that tickets for the Michigan Team Championship were “no longer available” on LIV’s official website as of Thursday morning, even as the league had not made an official announcement.
WXYZ 7 News Detroit said the league told players the $30 million Team Championship was canceled, while also noting that on Thursday morning the tickets were no longer available for purchase and the site displayed: "The tickets you were looking for are no longer available...".
Field Level Media said the circuit’s 13 teams had been scheduled to compete for a $40 million prize pool, and that the 2026 season would conclude with the Indianapolis-area tournament next weekend at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Ind.
Players, venues, and silence
The Telegraph reported that LIV had finally told its players the Team Championship event scheduled for Michigan in three weeks’ time has been cancelled, while also describing that tickets were still being advertised for sale on the tour website.
Sky Sports said Tyrrell Hatton appeared on the latest version of the entry list for the British Masters, which also runs from Aug. 27-30, and that Hatton was joined by Tom McKibbin and Adrian Meronk at The Belfry.
WXYZ 7 News Detroit quoted Mark Newman, a volunteer and Plymouth Township resident, saying he has no information about whether the event will move forward, and it added that St. John’s Resort and its official event management partner, Outlyr, declined to comment.
Sky Sports also reported that LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said the league reached an agreement with a new unnamed “lead investor” to provide funding for the 2027 season, and that O’Neil said the new investor had "signed a term sheet".
What’s at stake next
With the Michigan Team Championship canceled, Field Level Media said the 2026 LIV Golf season will conclude with the Indianapolis-area tournament next weekend at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Ind., where Captain Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC leads the team standings with 149.50 points.

Field Level Media also reported that the cancellation would be the second tournament canceled since Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced it would not continue backing LIV Golf after this season, following a $30 million tournament in New Orleans scheduled for June 25-28 that was scrapped.
Golf Digest said LIV was still selling tickets to the Michigan team championship even after the Telegraph report, and it framed the situation as uncertainty for Michigan golf fans who “still have no idea if the tickets they could potentially still buy today will be worth the paper they’re printed on in two weeks’ time.”
The Telegraph said it remains unclear how the season-long team race will be decided in Indiana and whether the $40m team prizes will be paid out, while also noting that Scott O’Neil revealed last week that there was an investor lined up to ensure the league’s survival into 2027.
