Escape, truck theft, manhunt
Jacob Morley, 28, escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee, and prison staff confirmed he was unaccounted for around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, triggering an emergency count and search.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said security video showed Morley breaching the perimeter fence and exiting the facility in his TDOC uniform, and investigators later said he stole a white 2008 Ford F-350 with Tennessee tag 138BBQV.
Investigators said Morley stole the truck at approximately 1 a.m. Monday from the 400 block of Keystone Drive, roughly two miles south of the prison, while the manhunt expanded beyond the facility.
Diana Reid, a friend of Cody Birchfield, said she was “absolutely horrified” that Morley escaped and urged people to learn what he looks like and to stay away from him.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said authorities located the truck in Marion, Illinois, but Morley’s location remained unknown.
Family fears, public warnings
Carrie Norman, Birchfield’s sister, said she was "reliving this horrible tragedy all over again" as the manhunt continued for the fugitive Jacob Morley. Diana Reid warned that “Just knowing his killer is now on the run is terrifying,” and she said the news made it difficult to even sleep or think clearly. The Tennessee Department of Correction said it was “working closely with law enforcement agencies to apprehend the individual as quickly as possible,” and it added Morley to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s most wanted list.
Reid urged the public to remain vigilant, never approach Morley, and immediately contact law enforcement if they believed they had spotted him. Investigators told the public that anyone who sees Morley or the truck should keep their distance and call 911.
Who is targeted, what’s at stake
Investigators described Morley as “considered dangerous,” and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said he was added to the state’s most wanted list.
The Tennessee Department of Correction said prison staff realized Morley was missing around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, and it said security video showed him getting over the prison’s outer fence.
Authorities offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest, and they released a photo of a stolen truck sought in connection with the inmate.
Fox News Digital quoted Diana Reid warning that “Someone could unknowingly cross paths with him without realizing the danger they may be in,” as she said her biggest concern was public safety.
The manhunt also relied on surveillance details, with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation saying newly obtained footage “shows Morley stealing a white 2008 Ford F-350, Tennessee tag 138BBQV” at approximately 1 a.m. Monday.
