Pezeshkian at UNGA
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the UN General Assembly that Iran has been the victim of terrorism as he held up photographs of children killed in strikes in Iran. Pezeshkian said, “We have been the victims of terrorism,” and he added, “I come from an Iran where, in truth, they bombed a school.”
“‘We have been the victims of terrorism,’ Pezeshkian told world leaders.”
A lone US representative walked out as Pezeshkian spoke about civilian casualties and accused the US and Israel of targeting civilian infrastructure in violation of international law. Pezeshkian also insisted on Iran’s nuclear position, saying, “We say it clearly: no nuclear weapons and no limitations to peaceful nuclear technology.”

US threats and Iran’s response
Donald Trump threatened to “annihilate” Iran if a peace deal could not be reached, and Pezeshkian responded at the UNGA by calling out the language of force. Trump warned that he was deciding whether to strike a deal with Tehran or “annihilate” the country, and it quoted Trump threatening to “drive them into hell with no chance of survival.”
Pezeshkian told world leaders that Iran remained willing to negotiate, saying, “Iran must be understood by Mr Trump and those who seek to bully us: that we are ready for dialogue and diplomacy and negotiations, without accepting the language of force.” Iran’s president delivered his UN General Assembly address one day after Trump threatened to ‘annihilate’ the country, while Iran said it is open to talks but won’t negotiate under threat.

Talks, evidence, and walkout
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner for around three hours on the sidelines of the UN gathering, and Trump described the discussions as “very good” and “very productive.” Trump subsequently described the meeting and said another was expected “in the very near future,” while it also reported that Pezeshkian said Trump’s comments went against the “very essence” of the UN Charter.
“He stated that the February 28 attack killed 150 people.”
Pezeshkián accused the United States and Israel of violating international law by attacking civilian infrastructure in Iran, and it said he described the attacks as “terrorism.” Pezeshkián showed photographs of children who, he says, died in the bombing of the Minab school, and it stated that the February 28 attack killed 150 people.
