Five shot at VSU
A shooting involving multiple suspects at Virginia State University prompted a campus lockdown early Saturday after officers found five people suffering from gunshot wounds outside campus dormitories.

The incident happened near the university’s Quad Annexes in Ettrick, Virginia, and county police said officers discovered the victims outside campus residence halls when they arrived around 1:30 a.m.
The five victims were transported to hospitals, and one initially listed as having life-threatening injuries was upgraded to critical condition while the other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, county police said.
The university said in a statement that the shooting involves “multiple suspects,” and it asked people to avoid the immediate area while “VSU Police and the Chesterfield County Police Department are actively investigating.”
Lockdown lifted; probe continues
ABC7 New York said officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to the 3300-block of Boisseau Street, where they found five people who had been shot outside of VSU residence halls.
The university posted to social media just before 5 a.m., saying the campus had been placed on lockdown following a shooting that involved "multiple suspects," and ABC7 reported that the lockdown has since been lifted.
CBS News said school officials noted that a “significant law enforcement presence remains on campus” as police continued their investigation.
WWBT reported that VSU Police Chief David Bragg announced around 8:20 a.m. that the lockdown had been lifted and normal access to campus could resume, while investigators processed the scene.
Calls for tips; next steps
Authorities urged the public to avoid the area and follow law enforcement instructions while the Chesterfield County Police Department led the investigation with assistance from VSU police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

The Globe and Mail reported that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office were assisting, and it said county police and campus officials indicated there would be more information later in the day.
USA Today said officials reported the campus lockdown was lifted as of 8:22 a.m., and it quoted the university’s post on X that “none of the injuries appear to be life threatening.”
