Pep Guardiola Says He Has One More Year on His Manchester City Contract Ahead of FA Cup Final

The Guardian reported Guardiola described his decade at City as “fucking fun” and said the visit to Wembley might not be the last time he leads the team out there.

Guardiola also pointed to his record of “19 titles in 10 years” as he kept the focus on his current deal rather than any immediate exit.

As speculation continued about Guardiola’s future, the London Evening Standard quoted him saying “No way! I have one more year (on my) contract,” before he darted to the press conference’s exit door.

The same outlet said Guardiola declined to comment on reports that two backroom staff in Lorenzo Buenaventura and Xabi Mancisidor were set to leave, adding that he replied “I extended the contracts of all of them for three more years.”

At the press conference, Belfast Telegraph’s report also captured Guardiola’s response to whether Saturday could be his last trip to Wembley, quoting him: “No way! I have one more year (on my) contract.”

Belfast Telegraph further reported Guardiola said he would have no problem if the coaches wanted to move on and that “You have to follow your dreams. You cannot stay in your comfort zone.”

With City aiming for a domestic cup double, SportyTV said Guardiola’s team could win both domestic cups in a single season for the second time, after doing so in 2018-19.

Al Jazeera reported Guardiola insisted City’s season could be a success “regardless of trophies,” while also saying City will head to Wembley for a fourth successive FA Cup final appearance.

Al Jazeera also said City will put their attempt to catch Premier League leaders Arsenal on hold, and it reported Guardiola would only offer “we’ll see” when asked if Rodri would be fit to start in midfield.

The Guardian added that Rodri faces a late fitness test to face Chelsea on Saturday, as Guardiola’s comments kept attention on whether his Wembley run ends with this final or continues beyond his contract expiry in summer 2027.
