Pandas Arrive in Atlanta
Two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, arrived at Zoo Atlanta after landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday morning via a dedicated “FedEx Panda Express” Boeing 777 aircraft.
Zoo Atlanta initiated a new International Cooperative Research Agreement on Giant Panda Conservation between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association as the pandas traveled from China.
Zoo Atlanta president and CEO Raymond B. King said, "This is a thrilling day for Zoo Atlanta and a historic moment for the City of Atlanta, the state of Georgia, and beyond," as the animals began their next phase in Atlanta.
Zoo Atlanta will spend around a month in quarantine in a biosecure area of the zoo’s new giant panda complex and will not be visible to visitors during that time.
The zoo said it will announce at a later date when the pandas will make their public debut, after the quarantine period ends.
Xi, Trump, and the Loan
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced during a visit to the White House that the pandas would soon be heading to Atlanta, and Zoo Atlanta said the arrival came three days after that announcement. Xi said Thursday, "In a few days, two pandas, Ping-Ping and Fu Shang, will come to their new home in Zoo Atlanta, and meet with the American people." The Guardian described the loan as one of the few concrete outcomes to come out of Xi’s state visit with the US president, and it said the loan was for 10 years.

Quarantine, Research, and Access
Zoo Atlanta said Ping Ping and Fu Shuang are not yet visible to the public and will be housed in a biosecure area of Zoo Atlanta’s new giant panda complex for a routine quarantine period of around a month. Zoo Atlanta said it will make future announcements about the new arrivals, including the name of their new home, design details of their expanded habitat, and the date when Members and guests can expect to see them. Zoo Atlanta said the pandas arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on September 27, 2026, via a dedicated “FedEx Panda Express” Boeing 777 aircraft, and FedEx generously donated the transportation.
Zoo Atlanta said the pandas are part of a new International Cooperative Research Agreement on Giant Panda Conservation initiated between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association.
