Abu Safiya in custody
Protests in Paris and Gaza demanded the release of Palestinian doctor Hussam Abu Safia, who has been held in Israeli custody since December 2024.
Al Jazeera reported that demonstrators also called for the release of other Palestinian healthcare workers detained by Israel.

Haaretz said nearly 50 German lawmakers joined international calls on Israel to grant immediate access to medical care to Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, describing him as being held in an Israeli prison without trial and reportedly in life-threatening condition.
The Wa’ed for Prisoners Association condemned an Israeli Supreme Court decision to reject an appeal and to approve the continuation of his detention under what it called the 'Unlawful Combatant Law' without bringing formal charges, warning against his assassination.
Court, prison, and claims
In Europe, Al Jazeera described demonstrations in London outside the Israeli Embassy demanding the release of prisoners from Israeli prisons, especially Kamal Adwan Hospital director Husam Abu Safiya, who has been detained since late 2024.
A protest chant quoted by Al Jazeera included: "Freedom for Dr. Husam now... Freedom for all doctors now... Freedom for all nurses now... Freedom for all prisoners now."
France Palestine Solidarité said an Israeli court extended the detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip, with no charges brought against him, under difficult conditions and without access to medical care.
Physicians for Human Rights said in a statement that the Beersheba District Court on Tuesday morning approved extending Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya's detention under the Illegal Combatants Law without charges and rejected the defense's request for his immediate release.
1,000 days and pressure
The Arab-language outlet التلفزيون العربي marked 1,000 days since Israel's war on Gaza began with marches in cities including Paris, Bandung, Copenhagen, Berlin, and Stockholm, with protesters calling for accountability and an end to massacres.
In Copenhagen, protesters raised a banner reading: '1,000 days of genocide... 78 years of suffering,' linking the current war to the Palestinian Nakba, while chanting calls to halt arms supplies to Israel and to hold its leaders to account.
In Stockholm, a solidarity march with Gaza demanded an end to the aggression and the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, and participants waved Palestinian flags and displayed images of prisoners including Dr. Husam Abu Safiya and Marwan Barghouti.
Al Jazeera also reported that protests in Paris and Gaza were specifically for the release of Palestinian doctor Hussam Abu Safia, held in Israeli custody since December 2024, and for the release of other Palestinian healthcare workers detained by Israel.
