Roblox goes standalone

Roblox used its annual Roblox Developers Conference to announce that creators will be able to distribute games as standalone applications across mobile, PC and consoles, with Roblox providing the underlying technology and services. The company said that by the end of the year, players will be able to join a game directly from its Experience Details page in Chrome without downloading anything, with support for additional browsers planned later.

Roblox also said its Build tool, first introduced in July and initially made available in New Zealand, is expanding to Serbia and Singapore, and is gaining desktop access plus a new asset library and more control over iterative changes. In parallel, Roblox said it is adding NPCs that can playtest games and that its engine now supports 2D projects with an orthographic camera, animated image containers and direct sprite-sheet imports.

AI creation and new modes

Roblox said its Build tool lets users create, test and publish a playable game from a text prompt, and that since its debut users have published roughly 9,000 games using Build. The company said 71 percent of those creators had never previously used Roblox Studio, and it framed the expansion of Build beyond New Zealand to Serbia and Singapore as a way to broaden who can build.

Later this year, Roblox said Build will gain a prompt-based scene generation feature that will extend to Roblox Studio, and it described Scene Generator as using a text prompt combined with a reference image to produce a functional game layout. Roblox also announced offline play and browser access, with browser-based play initially exclusive to Chrome users and offline play scheduled for mid-2027, alongside the ability for creators to combine online and offline modes within a single game.

Wallet, Card, and reach

Roblox said game makers have earned more than $5 billion on the platform since 2013, including $1.7 billion in the last 12 months, as it unveiled a Roblox Wallet to let creators receive real-money payments by the end of each business day. The company said it is partnering with Airwallex to provide wallet services in the US, and it described the Roblox Wallet as a way for creators to transfer funds to other bank accounts.

Roblox also announced a Roblox Card expected to launch next year, and it said the card would let creators spend their earnings at any merchant that accepts the card. At the same event, Roblox founder and chief executive David Baszucki said players spent more than 29 billion hours on Roblox in the last quarter across 180 countries, as the company pushed its “Roblox Everywhere” initiative to publish standalone apps on mobile, PC, and consoles.
