Russian Forces Kill Four, Injure Over 60 in Pavlohrad Shopping Center Drone Attack

Russian drone attacks killed four people and injured more than 60 in Pavlohrad, Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirming the incident on Thursday on X and saying the attack occurred near shopping malls.

The Kyiv Post said the deadliest strike hit a shopping center in Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and it cited the State Emergency Service confirming at 6:16 p.m. local time that the toll rose to four killed and 62 injured, including two rescuers hurt while responding.

The BBC also reported that Ukrainian officials said four people were killed and 60 wounded when a Russian drone attacked a shopping mall in Pavlohrad, with Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi saying the attack took place "when the streets were full of people."

Ukrinform added that the Office of the Prosecutor General reported the attack damaged market stalls and vehicles, while Zelenskyy said Ukraine was working with partners so the country could protect Ukrainians from "this Russian terror."

Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said the Russians struck a shopping centre in central Pavlohrad "in the middle of the day, when there were many people on the streets," and he described "two fatalities" and "At least 18 people have been injured" as the initial information.

Zelenskyy framed the attack as part of a broader pattern, telling the public: "The Russians used drones to kill people who were simply standing near shopping centres."

The BBC reported that Zelensky offered his condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in Thursday's attack, while it also noted that two of those injured were members of the service itself and a child was also hurt.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine was working with partners so the country could protect Ukrainians from "this Russian terror," and he stated that "Today, there will be decisions on additional support packages for Ukraine" including defence assistance and support for "protecting our skies."

The Peoples Gazette Nigeria article also reported that Zelenskyy said the world sees what Russia is doing and that "Ukraine will have support," adding that his "one hundred percent" attention was focused on strengthening defence, funding defence, and opportunities for weapons manufacturers to protect lives.

Beyond Pavlohrad, Zelenskyy said dozens of people were wounded in Kramatorsk by Russian bombs that struck residential buildings, and the Kyiv Post described a massive Russian airstrike injuring 27 people, including an infant, in Kramatorsk.

The Kyiv Post further said Russian forces struck Sumy with two KABs injuring 11 people, including three children, and it described damage to an apartment building, about 15 private homes, two stores, and residents’ vehicles.
