Kyiv hit, drones downed
Russian strikes on Ukraine killed at least one person and wounded seven more, while a Spanish F-18 fighter jet on a NATO air policing mission shot down a drone that illegally entered Romanian airspace.
“Authorities in the Ukrainian capital also said Kyiv was “under ballistic missile attack””
A woman was killed and six others were wounded in a missile and drone attack on Kryvyi Rig, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the region’s governor said early on Sunday.

Authorities in Kyiv also said the capital was “under ballistic missile attack” late on Saturday, with one person wounded and fires sparked at non-residential sites in the Obolonsky and Holosiivskyi districts.
In Russia, Moscow officials said they had downed more than 100 drones heading towards the capital overnight, and Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said emergency services were deployed to sites where debris fell, adding that three people were wounded.
Romania’s Defence Ministry reported that the Spanish F-18 pilot shot down the drone, the fourth drone shot down in Romania this year, and said it did not specify the origin of the drone.
Moscow’s drone wave
Moscow’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that Kyiv was attacked with “ballistic missiles,” and he urged residents of the million-strong city to stay in protective shelters.
In the same reporting, Sobyanin said Ukraine’s attack on Moscow involved around 600 drones, and he wrote that “201 were shot down by air defenses in the Moscow region.”

The Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram attacks with missiles, glide bombs, and drones on other parts of the country, including the industrial cities of Krementschuk and Kryvyi Rih.
A Spanish F-18 fighter jet under a NATO mission shot down a drone over Romania after radar located it as it entered Romanian airspace from neighboring Moldova, and the wreckage fell in an uninhabited area.
The reporting also said Russia’s mayor Klitschko posted that there were explosions in Kyiv, with fires in two districts and falling debris setting several cars on fire.
Long-range strikes deepen
Ukraine announced on Saturday that it targeted with long-range missiles a Russian military airbase and a missile center that supports a nascent Russian satellite internet network, as Kyiv’s campaign to pressure Moscow to end the war continued.
“It is important to reduce Russia’s warfighting capabilities”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed the missile facility was hit, writing on X that “It is important to reduce Russia’s warfighting capabilities.”
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported direct hits at the airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region and at the Progress missile and space center near Samara, adding that the strikes caused fires at both sites.
Russian authorities in Nizhny Novgorod did not confirm that the airbase was struck, while local officials in Samara said air defenses repelled a “large missile attack,” and Ivan Naskov said “the industrial infrastructure in Samara suffered limited damage.”
The reporting also said Ukraine’s long-range strikes hit the Samara plant that produces missiles used to launch satellites for the “Rasvet” wide-band internet network, described as Russia’s alternative to SpaceX’s Starlink service.
