The General Staff said the Kamensky plant produces solid rocket fuel for the Uragan, Smerch and Tornado-S multiple-launch rocket systems and that its products directly support the needs of the Russian armed forces.

Ukrainian reporting also said operations ceased at the Zapsibneftekhim plant in Tobolsk, Tyumen Oblast after its Central Gas Fractionation Unit No. 1 was struck on Aug. 10, and it confirmed results of an Aug. 11 strike on the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Orsk, Orenburg Oblast.

In parallel, CNBC reported that Russia carried out a wave of airstrikes on Ukraine overnight, killing two people at a steel plant in Kryvyi Rih, while Kyiv launched a heavy drone attack on the Moscow region that killed one person and set ablaze a warehouse used by Russia's leading e-commerce retailer.

Drone toll and official voices

Russia said it downed 822 Ukrainian drones throughout the country in the latest attacks, while Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said an 83-year-old man had been killed in what he described as one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks on the Moscow region since the start of the conflict.

In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a Russian missile strike on Kyiv early on Sunday caused fires in at least two districts of the capital, and the city’s military administration said three people were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said six people were injured in the capital Kyiv after four rounds of air raids overnight and into the morning, and he also referred to a fifth Ukrainian death reported in Sumy on Saturday evening when a car was struck.

The New Voice of Ukraine framed the broader campaign in terms of an “information war,” writing that “Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices.”

Escalation and what’s at risk

The New Voice of Ukraine said the General Staff also confirmed results of previous strikes on other key Russian industrial facilities, including the ZapSibNeftekhim plant in Tobolsk and the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Orsk, as Ukraine continued to target Russia’s defense-industrial supply chain.

Ukrainian reporting tied the Kamensky strike to a wider pattern of long-range attacks, with Ukrinform quoting the General Staff’s statement that “Operations against key Russian military and military-industrial targets are ongoing. More to come!”

CNBC reported that Russia struck Ukraine's largest grain export port on the River Danube near the Romanian border last week after stepping up attacks in recent weeks, and it said Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian targets including oil refineries.

In the same reporting cycle, CNBC said ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih MT.LU warned that key production facilities in the power generation and blast furnace sectors had been damaged and that the plant's production processes had been partially halted, while Reuters footage showed a large plume of smoke over Wildberries’ Koledino warehouse about 45 km (28 miles) south of Moscow.
