Samsung Wallet readies USDC
Samsung announced that Samsung Wallet will integrate Solana to enable transfers of USDC, Circle’s stablecoin, on approximately 82 million Galaxy devices in the United States. Samsung said the rollout is planned for the end of October, and Samsung also confirmed that the feature will be available to eligible users without needing to install an additional cryptocurrency app or manage private keys.
Samsung said users will be able to send USDC to compatible wallets and transfer funds to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, with the possibility of receiving the money converted to the local currency. Woncheol Chai, head of Samsung Electronics’ Digital Wallet Team, said, “Sending money abroad should feel as convenient as using the wallet that’s already on your phone,” as Samsung positioned the integration as a consumer product rather than a crypto exchange.

Solana, Sui, and custody
Samsung said the initiative will primarily use the Solana blockchain infrastructure and will allow sending digital dollars abroad from the phone’s built-in wallet. Samsung also named Solana and Sui as technical partners, while Coinbase will custody the USDC held in Samsung Wallet through Coinbase Prime Vault, and Bastion will provide the regulated infrastructure for stablecoin accounts and payments.
Samsung said it will not charge for USDC transfers between wallets, although receiving platforms may apply their own charges, and it said fees for transfers to bank accounts may vary depending on the destination country. Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, said, “Stablecoins have the potential to make cross-border money movement faster and simpler, and we want Galaxy users to benefit from that without navigating the complexities of traditional crypto tools,” tying the partnership to a path toward mass market use.

Eligibility and expansion
Samsung said the service will be limited to eligible Galaxy users in the United States and that users must complete identity verification to access the service.
“‘Mass adoption was never going to come from people downloading crypto apps.”
Samsung said the feature will be available on 82 million compatible Galaxy devices in the US, but it also said the company has not yet announced when the feature will expand beyond the United States, with future availability depending on local regulation.
Samsung said it contemplates expanding the functionality to other countries, and it said expansion will depend on regulatory requirements in each jurisdiction, especially rules related to stablecoins, custody of digital assets, and international transfers.
Kevin Lehtiniitty, CEO of Borderless.xyz, said, “Mass adoption was never going to come from people downloading crypto apps. It comes from the phone already in your pocket,” as he urged that Apple and Google follow a similar approach.
