Sequans sells final BTC

Sequans Communications sold the last 314 bitcoin on its balance sheet, completing a Bitcoin treasury strategy that had at one point held more than 3,200 BTC. Sequans said it launched the strategy in June 2025 after announcing a $384 million sale of equity securities and convertible secured debentures.

Sequans began trimming its holdings by selling 970 BTC in November to redeem half of its convertible debt, and it said that by May 2026 it had redeemed the rest and was no longer pursuing the strategy. Sequans’ CEO Georges Karam said the company used Bitcoin sales to eliminate its convertible debt and monetize its remaining Bitcoin holdings, leaving the company with no cryptocurrency holdings and no debt outside obligations tied to government-financed R&D projects.

Debt redemption drives exit

Sequans linked its exit to the redemption of its convertible debt in May, and the company said the Bitcoin proceeds were used to reduce debt and strengthen its balance sheet. Sequans’ statement said the company will now refocus on its core cellular Internet-of-Things (IoT) and software-defined radio businesses after the final sale of its remaining 314 BTC.

Sequans said it began reducing its BTC less than six months after launching the treasury strategy, selling 970 BTC in November to redeem half of its convertible debt. Sequans said that by May 2026 it was “no longer pursuing” the treasury strategy and would monetize the remaining Bitcoin over time, and it later confirmed it had sold the remaining 314 BTC.

Broader 2026 treasury pullback

VanEck’s Matthew Sigel said he had identified at least nine companies that fully liquidated or abandoned their Bitcoin and crypto treasury strategies in 2026, alongside several others that reduced their holdings. Cointelegraph described UK-listed Satsuma Technology as a drastic reversal, saying it raised 100 million British pounds ($135 million) through convertible loan notes in July 2025 to expand its Bitcoin treasury.

Cointelegraph said Satsuma shareholders voted overwhelmingly to return substantially all of the company’s capital and cancel its listing, and the board authorized the closure of its trading activities and the sale of its entire 669 BTC position. Cointelegraph added that Bitdeer, Genius Group and Prenetics were among other companies to fully liquidate their Bitcoin holdings in 2026, while MARA Holdings and Empery Digital made substantial sales without abandoning their treasury strategies altogether.
