Bromley stabbing arrests

Seven men were arrested after four men were stabbed during an altercation on Bromley High Street in south-east London on Thursday afternoon, with one victim remaining in critical condition and three others receiving treatment for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called at about 14:20 BST to Bromley High Street, where paramedics and the London Air Ambulance were dispatched, and a KFC spokesperson confirmed a "serious incident" had taken place at its Bromley High Street restaurant.

BBC reported that one eyewitness saw a man wielding a machete, while the BBC also described how an altercation began at the KFC site and spilled out onto the High Street.

A witness, Merkur Slots gambling shop manager Georgiana, said she saw "a fight spill out" on to the High Street and locked three customers inside to wait for the situation to calm down.

Witnesses and officials react

Georgiana said she became "very worried" and locked three customers inside the Merkur Slots premises, and she added that the customers remained inside while the shop was still closed.

On X, Peter Fortune, Conservative MP for Bromley and Biggin Hill, said residents "would have safety concerns" and that he would remain in contact with the police as they investigate the case.

Liberal Democrat councillor Graeme Casey said the response was "really to the credit of all the blue-light services involved" after he pointed to London police being "quite thinly stretched."

On the street, Matias Alil described the scene as "terrible" and said: "We saw a massive commotion and something going on in KFC. It was really scary, to be honest."

Investigation and disruptions

Police said there was not believed to be any wider threat to the public, and the Metropolitan Police spokesperson said "Police enquiries continue" while the seven arrested men remained in custody.

The London Ambulance Service said it sent ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic, and it dispatched London's Air Ambulance after being called at 2:19pm.

Bromley High Street was closed both ways from Ringers Road to Ethelbert Road, and parts of Elmfield Road and Ethelbert Road were also shut as of Thursday afternoon, with the Church House Gardens park cordoned off.

The AA reported that traffic was slow around the area of the incident and that some bus routes were diverted, while the London Ambulance Service confirmed four patients were treated at the scene and taken to hospital.
