Talks Begin in Turkey
Turkish club Trabzonspor said it has begun transfer negotiations with Mohamed Salah, with the club chair Ertugrul Dogan telling A Spor that Salah was expected to arrive in Istanbul for medical checks on Wednesday and then go to Trabzon to sign with the Black Sea side.

The Guardian reported that Trabzonspor hoped to sign the Egypt forward later this week, while also noting Salah left Liverpool after nine years and scored 257 goals in 442 appearances for the Merseyside club.
CNA, datelined Ankara on Aug 4, quoted Trabzonspor’s statement on Turkey’s public disclosure platform: "Negotiations have been launched to transfer professional footballer Mohamed Salah, who is in a free status, to our club," as Salah’s next steps were framed around a Wednesday medical.
beIN SPORTS added that Trabzonspor said Salah would be at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5, and that he was scheduled to arrive in Trabzon later that same day.
Medical, Arrival, Contract
While Trabzonspor’s statement kept the process in “negotiations,” the club chair Ertugrul Dogan told A Spor that the transfer was not completed and that it would likely be signed on Thursday.
The Guardian also tied the move to Salah’s recent Liverpool exit, saying he was left on the bench in Champions League games and that this led to a public spat with Liverpool’s then-manager Arne Slot.
In a separate report, Egyptian Gazette said Trabzonspor had begun talks and that Salah would sign a two-year deal worth €17 million per season plus €5 million in bonuses, with 20 to 25 per cent of shirt-sale revenue.
CNA described the same timeline around Istanbul and medical checks, quoting Dogan that while the transfer was not yet complete, Salah was expected to arrive in Istanbul for medical checks on Wednesday and then head to Trabzon to sign.
What the Move Changes
The Guardian said Trabzonspor finished third in the Super Lig last season and would enter the Europa League playoffs, setting up the club’s next phase as Salah’s arrival was discussed as a major addition.

Bleacher Report framed the potential transfer as a new chapter after Salah’s contract ended following the 2025-26 season, and it quoted Salah’s December remarks about his relationship with manager Arne Slot and the club: "It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus."
In the same report, Bleacher Report said Salah was set to fly to Istanbul on Wednesday, and it described Trabzonspor’s recent domestic success as their last Turkish Süper Lig title coming in 2021-22 and their third-place finish last season securing a Europa League berth.
